Getting to know Shelby Nielson

I see therapy as a way to enable people to be the best version of themselves. Accepting the need to grow and change can be challenging, and by seeking therapy, you are taking a necessary step toward that growth. I work together with clients to set goals that address their needs and inspire insight and development. I look forward to meeting with you to discuss your needs and explore ways to achieve your therapeutic goals. I have specialized in working with teens and young adults, both individually and in exploring their relationships with family and friends. This experience helps me support clients in addressing relationship struggles and communication barriers. I hold a MEd in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from The University of Utah, which has equipped me with the skills and knowledge to provide effective, compassionate care.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I work with people to address general mental health concerns, trauma history, personality disorders, self harm struggles and suicidal idealizations. I work with people from all walks of life and want to support your unique identity. I am an ally of the LGBTQ community. I care about and work with people struggling with chronic pain and invisible disabilities.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My background in positive psychology helps me to join with people to empower them from a strengths based perspective. I respect and affirm individuals in any and all belief systems. I work with people to be able to find the best versions of themselves. I am excited to meet with you and share in your journey of growth and self understanding.
