You're navigating life as a neurodivergent adult or someone from a South Asian background, and you're exhausted from trying to fit into spaces that don't understand your experience. Whether you're managing ADHD, autism, anxiety, or the complex intersection of cultural expectations and individual identity, you want a therapist who truly gets it without requiring extensive explanation. I'm Shivani Solanki, both a Licensed Professional Counselor and Board-Certified Music Therapist—a unique combination that allows me to offer both traditional therapy and creative, neurodivergent-affirming approaches. I specialize in supporting teens (16+) and adults who are navigating identity, cultural expectations, neurodivergent diagnoses, or emotionally charged life transitions. Many of my clients come from South Asian or immigrant backgrounds and are reconciling individual desires with family expectations. Others feel stuck—emotionally overwhelmed, unheard in relationships, or disconnected from their authentic selves. My therapeutic style is warm, reflective, and direct, integrating Mindfulness-Centered Behavioral Therapy (MCBT), CBT, DBT, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and music therapy techniques. What should a new client know about working with you?

My Unique Background: I'm one of the few therapists who is both a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate and Board-Certified Music Therapist, giving me a unique toolkit to support your healing journey. I also have lived experience as a South Asian woman who understands cultural pressures and neurodivergent experiences. Getting Started: We'll begin with a free 15-minute consultation where you can share what's bringing you to therapy, and I'll explain how my approach might help. No pressure—just genuine conversation about whether we're a good fit. My Specialties: - Neurodivergent adults (ADHD, autism, executive functioning) - South Asian/immigrant family dynamics and cultural pressure - Intergenerational trauma and identity exploration - Creative approaches using music therapy techniques when appropriate - Anxiety, depression, and life transitions What Makes Me Different: You won't need to over-explain your culture or mask your neurodivergent traits. I understand the exhaustion of code-switching, the pressure of being a "model minority," and the unique challenges of being neurodivergent in neurotypical spaces. Practical Details: - $85 per session with sliding scale available - Virtual sessions throughout Texas - Flexible scheduling including evenings - I integrate music therapy techniques when helpful (not required) - Culturally informed, neurodivergent-affirming approach

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Free Consultation (15 minutes): We'll discuss what's bringing you to therapy, your goals, and whether my specialized approach aligns with your needs. I'll explain how I might integrate traditional therapy with creative techniques based on your preferences. Initial Assessment (Sessions 1-2): We'll explore your history, current challenges, cultural context, and any neurodivergent considerations. I'll explain treatment options and we'll collaboratively create a personalized plan that honors both your cultural background and individual needs. Early Sessions (3-6): We'll focus on immediate relief strategies for anxiety, overwhelm, or family conflict while building your toolkit. For neurodivergent clients, this often includes executive functioning strategies and sensory regulation techniques. I may incorporate mindfulness, creative expression, or music-based interventions when appropriate. Growth Phase (Ongoing): As you develop skills, we'll work on deeper identity exploration, trauma processing, and authentic self-connection. For clients interested, I may integrate music therapy techniques to access emotions and insights that traditional talk therapy might not reach. My Approach: - Culturally responsive: I understand South Asian family dynamics, immigration stress, and cultural expectations - Neurodivergent-affirming: I celebrate your neurodivergent traits rather than trying to mask them - Creative integration: Music therapy techniques are available but never required - Collaborative: You guide the pace and direction based on your comfort and goals Typical Timeline: Many clients notice some relief within 3-4 sessions and significant progress within 2-3 months. However, I believe healing happens on your timeline, not mine. Between Sessions: I may suggest creative exercises, mindfulness practices, or family communication strategies. For neurodivergent clients, I often provide executive functioning tools and resources.
