Getting to know Shyeta Williams

So, everything kinda sucks right now. The world feels so heavy, and that anxiety in the pit of your stomach is more consistent than you'd care to admit. The depression kitty is lingering on your chest again and seems to be making herself at home. If you could successfully bully yourself into just getting your shit together, maybe things would be different. The whiplash between feeling (or perhaps just looking) like you've got it all figured out and knowing you're dropping the ball hard is keeping you up at night, the traumas of the past on constant replay. You may find yourself painfully aware of the hurdle between you and your brand new day™, but keep committing to changes that don't stick, reading books full of tips that you swear to try tomorrow. Giving yourself a bit of grace is a crucial part of the healing process. In therapy, we can find a balance of self-compassion and accountability to help you see real and lasting change! You've already made an important first step by coming here. I hold a Master's in Counseling Psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies, and therapy with me supports those who find themselves striving for perfection in ways that cause intense stress and anxiety (and even overshadow their high achievements). Together, we build an unshakable foundation of self-worth and empowerment. My approach focuses on compassionate and soulful exploration so that you are free to flourish without the weight of deep shame. You will learn practical tools grounded in relevant social and cultural contexts. I tend to work with present-moment awareness, in both thought and sensation. I also enjoy working with astrology and tarot, at your discretion and interest. Soon you'll find yourself feeling empowered and capable in ways that are thrilling. You'll experience less burnout and feel at home in your inner world. A delicious life can be in your grasp!

What should a new client know about working with you?

I specialize in working with adults and teenagers anywhere in the state of California, especially those who are Black, Queer, and gender expansive. Therapy with me is trauma-informed and consensual. It is culturally responsive and relevant. With a deep curiosity, I will support you in finding your fullest and most authentic self, releasing barriers that have kept you bound. Together we can re-engage with what may have been accepted as natural and inevitable.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

As an integrally trained therapist, I will intuitively create a bespoke experience using the theories and techniques that best fit your unique desires and the material you bring forth. I meet with clients via Zoom, or in person in Oakland CA, for 50 minute weekly sessions. Those booking an initial session with me via Zocdoc can expect a follow up email with necessary consent forms, payment authorization, and a Zoom link. First appointments made on Zocdoc will aways be virtual. I look forward to supporting you!

I’m so grateful for the support Shyeta has shown me. They have a natural ability to show up with people whatever they happen to be experiencing - If I need levity, they’re there. In times of big crisis, they’ve shown a deep capacity to sit with me in the overwhelming feelings and experiences. They somehow balance non-judgement with also showing me things that I wasn’t able to see. I’m a more resourced and aware human for having them in my life and I’d recommend Shyeta as a therapist without question.
Shyeta is the best. They are very grounding, real, wise, and I felt so supported by them. They care a lot about their clients and I always felt like I could rely on them when I needed extra support. They are personable, fun, incredibly smart. Definitely reach out to Shyeta!!
Shyeta is an incredible therapist and wonderful human. I can attest to her skills with families and teens. Their ability to create a safe and supportive environment for clients is remarkable. They have a natural talent for building rapport and trust, which allows clients to open up and engage in meaningful therapeutic work. One of the qualities I admire most about Shyeta is their cultural competence and sensitivity. They are genuinely inclusive and make it a priority to understand and respect each client's unique background and experiences. This commitment to diversity and inclusion is evident in every aspect of their work.
I've officially been working with Shyeta for an entire year as of January 2024. Shyeta's thoughtful and holistic approach to therapy has been truly transformative. They bring a wealth of knowledge, seamlessly integrating various frameworks and tools to support my growth and healing. Their presence creates a space where I feel entirely safe to show up as my whole self—whether I need to laugh, cry, process out loud, or simply sit in reflection. As a Black woman, it has been meaningful to work with someone who understands my multiple identities and lived experiences without the need for constant explanation. That sense of ease and deep understanding has made all the difference in my therapeutic journey. Shyeta consistently shows up with care, attentiveness, and authenticity in every session, even in a virtual setting. I cannot recommend their services enough to anyone seeking a therapist who is truly present, compassionate, and deeply skilled.
I always look forward to my therapy sessions that they have become a highlight of my week. I feel welcomed into the space, respected and treated with kindness. I believe in finding a therapist that you can connect and Feel comfortable with. I feel I have found that with Shyeta. Because of that I am able to communicate my concerns and thoughts openly during my sessions. All of these things are reasons why I look forward to my therapy sessions. I think everyone deserves a chance to find a therapist that fits their needs. I’m glad I have found mine.
