Our personal experiences and traumas often leave a deep imprint on our physical and mental bodies, separating us from ourselves and our environment while impacting our sense of self, safety, and trust. Trauma symptoms can trigger painful memories from the past and pull us away from the present moment. The struggle to maintain daily activities and cope with stress can be overwhelming, affecting all areas of our lives. Practicing presence and awareness of our experiences—both inside and outside our bodies and in relationships with others—can foster the integration of the parts separated by trauma. I am passionate about helping everyone struggling with the effects of traumatic experiences. Trauma is stored in the body and often expressed through somatic symptoms. Trauma can mean many different things, and only you can define your trauma because you are the expert in your own experience. Each of us is impacted differently by trauma, and healing will look different for everyone. We adopt coping mechanisms to survive the horrific effects of trauma and make it through the day by using what we have and what is available to us. I am sure that some of you reading this while searching for a therapist can relate and know exactly what this is like and how it feels. I hold a Master’s degree in Counseling from National Louis University, Chicago Campus, which has equipped me with the knowledge and skills to support individuals on their healing journeys.

What should a new client know about working with you?

By offering choices and opportunities to foster empowerment, I can provide support and guidance at every step of your therapeutic journey. I use an integrative approach to help you gain awareness of your unique needs so you can utilize the resources and skills that will serve you. Healing from trauma reminds me of a traditional Japanese technique called Kintsugi (golden repair), inspired by another Japanese tradition called Wabi Sabi, accepting imperfections. This technique uses the broken parts of pottery that are put back together using a gold bond that makes the cracks even more visible while creating beautiful and unique pottery. My hope for you is that you will find a way to accept and celebrate the unique self with everything that you have been through and embrace the person you have become through the process of healing and becoming whole again.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My therapeutic approach is client-centered with an invitation to make choices for yourself, experience sensations and emotions, and take effective action toward your healing. I use diverse tools and techniques, including mindfulness, EMDR, trauma-informed yoga, somatic experiences, ACT, CBT, DBT, MI, and others that you are welcome to engage with in a way that serves you each session. I hope there is a place for me by your side as your therapist to respectfully hold the space of safety and trust where the healing can occur at your own pace.
