Getting to know Stephanie Garcia

Welcome! My practice is rooted in sharing how our connections to our bodies, nature, and community can support us in the healing process. This knowledge that has been shared with me has illuminated my path and has enriched and expanded my training in traditional western psychology. Throughout my career of over a decade, I have worked in various settings and communities throughout the country.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I believe mental health is prevention and community medicine and as such, should be accessible to everyone. With this in mind, I work hard to create a space of inclusivity in my work. I have experience working with indigenous peoples, anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, relationship issues, intergenerational healing, ADHD, burnout, self esteem issues, and spirituality. I am a herbalist and have trained for several years in Traditional Mexican Medicine and have experience working with a textile called the Rebozo to support healing. I believe that when given a safe environment, we naturally move towards healing and growth. It has been my experience that if we can have another human being attune to us and help us feel accepted, safe, and seen for all the parts of who we are, we are able to journey down the path that therapy invites us on with self compassion and loving accountability. In our work together, I often utilize somatic experiencing, parts work, trauma informed care, and person centered therapy, while largely focusing on the therapeutic relationship. Studies show that the greatest measure for success in the therapy is the therapeutic relationship between therapists and the individuals they are working with.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Volver /bol'ber/ is the Spanish word for return. Volver Counseling considers the healing nature of therapy to be a return to wholeness - and thus a connection to ourselves/our bodies, the natural world, and each other. We provide individual therapy services virtually throughout the state of Texas. We also provide walk and talk services to folks in the Austin, TX area. Our first session will look different from all the sessions that follow. During our first session I am gathering information to give me a snapshot of what brings you in and your history. I will only encourage you to share as much as you comfortable with at this first session, as starting out can be overwhelming for a lot of folks and we are just building our relationship. We can take this as slow as you need, and I will meet you where you are at as we begin our journey together.
