“Steph made me feel welcomed and understood. As a first time therapist goer, I felt comfortable expressing my thoughts and feelings. In just the first meeting, which was very eye-opening, was way more helpful than I imagined that it would be. She is genuine and truly wants to help you feel better and has actually helped me in so many ways already. I have been working with her for several sessions now and I can’t recommend her and her team enough. ”

“It was incredibly well-organized, there was a patient but timely cadence (i.e. did not feel rushed, there were no awkward pauses, etc.), and I felt like I completely understood everything that was going on.”

Getting to know Stephanie Sanz

Stephanie brings a rare combination to the therapy room - the rigor of a neuroscientist and the intuition of a healer. She studied Neuroscience and Behavior at Columbia University and earned her Master's in Mental Health Counseling from CUNY Hunter College. Her foundation was further shaped by a National Institutes of Health fellowship at SUNY Stony Brook, investigating the role of the amyloid beta protein in Alzheimer's disease. She is a Certified Neurofeedback Clinician, HeartMath Certified Clinician, and holds advanced certification and training in brainspotting, somatic therapy, and complex trauma. She understands healing not just as symptom reduction, but as a whole-person reset, one that honors the nervous system and the body's deeper intelligence. At Cognitive Reset Counseling, Stephanie specializes in neurofeedback and brainspotting, both of which are brain-based approaches for processing what words sometimes can't reach. She currently accepts clients for neurofeedback and in-person brainspotting sessions and collaborates with the client's existing therapists to ensure continuity of care. As practice owner, she mentors and supervises her clinical team, training therapists in brain-based modalities that she implements in her own practice as a clinician. Every practitioner at Cognitive Reset offers specialized, whole-person care. From ADHD and complex trauma to low-cost therapy designed to make quality mental health support accessible to all. Healing isn't linear. At Cognitive Reset, the goal is to meet your nervous system exactly where it is and help it reset and rewire according to who you were meant to be.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Stephanie takes an integrative, brain-body approach to therapy that is grounded in neuroscience, trauma-informed care, and evidence-based methods including CBT, somatic therapy, and interpersonal neurobiology. Every intervention is tailored to the individual, because no two nervous systems and no two healing journeys are exactly alike. Her primary specialties at Cognitive Reset Counseling are neurofeedback and brainspotting, two powerful brain-based therapies for trauma processing, anxiety, PTSD, emotional dysregulation, and stress. Brainspotting works by locating where trauma and emotional pain are stored in the body and brain and processing it at the neurological level, beneath where traditional talk therapy reaches. Neurofeedback uses real-time brain training to help regulate the nervous system over time. New clients should know that Stephanie typically works in a focused, short-term capacity usually a handful of targeted sessions for brainspotting or an assessed course of neurofeedback. She frequently collaborates with clients' existing therapists, functioning as a specialist partner to deepen and accelerate the work already in progress. Once the focused work is complete, clients transition back to their primary therapist, equipped with new tools and greater capacity for regulation. Stephanie believes trust is the foundation of any therapeutic relationship. She creates a safe, nonjudgmental space where clients feel genuinely seen, not just their symptoms, but their full humanity. Her approach honors each person's unique path while offering the clinical precision to help move the nervous system forward. If you're looking for trauma therapy in NYC, neurofeedback, or brainspotting sessions to complement your ongoing care, Stephanie welcomes you exactly where you are.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Every client who works with Stephanie begins with an initial consultation to understand their history, their nervous system, and what's brought them to seek support. From there, the path forward depends on the presenting concerns and goals but the process is always intentional, structured, and collaborative. For neurofeedback clients, the process begins with a qEEG brain map, a non-invasive assessment that identifies dysregulation patterns in the brain's electrical activity, and is followed by a comprehensive intake session. The two combined offers data to inform a personalized neurofeedback protocol. Sessions involve real-time brain training using sensors placed on the scalp, with no discomfort and no medication. Clients typically notice shifts in focus, sleep, mood, and emotional regulation over a series of sessions. For brainspotting (BSP) clients, sessions are somatic and relational. Stephanie uses focused eye positions and attuned presence to help the brain and body locate and release stored trauma. BSP sessions can feel quiet and internal, or sometimes intense, but she goes at the client's pace. Stephanie works in a short-term, specialist model. Most clients see her for a defined course of brainspotting or neurofeedback (typically between 4 and 20 sessions depending on the modality and presenting concerns) before transitioning back to their primary therapist with new neurological and emotional resources. Throughout the process, clients can expect warmth, clinical precision, and a deep respect for the body's innate capacity to heal. This is not one-size-fits-all therapy. It is brain-based, trauma-informed, and built around you.

Wonderful and professional. Office has a spiritual ambiance and feel peaceful.
She was very helpful and attentive. One of the best therapists I’ve had.

Stephanie Sanz is an excellent therapist- she's attentive, patient, and kind. She has provided me with useful tools and methods to manage stress and address my mental health concerns. I've been seeing her for about 9 months and have noticed a significant improvement in my overall sense of well-being.
When I got there she said the initial sesion would be in network but any subsequent sessions would be out of network. The person who verified my insurance validated the wrong plan name so im not sure if that is even accurate. I feel like it is dishonest that represent yourself as an innetwork therapist. Not only did this delay my treatment with an innetwork but as a disabled person it was very difficult to get to the appointment just to be told right as I walked in that they did not have anyone in network. They could have called in advance.

She made me feel incredibly comfortable for our first conversation! It was nice to have someone invested in what I was saying and genuinely seemed to care.
I’ve been seeing Stephanie for a few months now for psychotherapy. It is really tough to find a good therapist and I am so happy that I found her. You can tell that she really cares about her patients. She is very knowledgable warm, attentive, and really listens. She is really dedicated to her clients and makes me feel like I have a safe and supportive space. She is truly a great therapist! I highly recommend her!
