Psychotherapist

Hello! My name is Susan MacIntyre, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in both Arizona and Kansas. With over 18 years of experience as a social worker and 7 years as a licensed therapist, I've had the privilege of working in various settings such as inpatient psychiatric hospitals, crisis stabilization units, emergency rooms, community mental health outpatient care, intensive outpatient programs for substance use, as well as hospice, hospital, and medical social work. Currently, I run a small private practice utilizing telehealth in both Arizona and Kansas. Throughout my career, I've learned that the most crucial aspect of counseling is the connection and support you feel with your therapist. Facing life's challenges with the help of friends, family, and a therapist you trust can lead to significant personal growth and development. I would be honored to accompany you through any struggles you are experiencing. Clients often describe me as caring, non-judgmental, easy to talk to, and appreciate my honesty and directness. You can expect me to walk with you through your difficulties and help you learn more about yourself and how you interact with the world. My therapy approach is strengths-based, client-centered, and individualized. This means we will identify your strengths and use them to achieve the goals you set for yourself in therapy. You won't receive a cookie-cutter treatment plan. I primarily use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which focuses on increasing psychological flexibility—the ability for mindful, values-guided action. As Harris (2019) states, 'the aim of ACT is to maximize human potential for a rich and meaningful life, while effectively handling the pain that inevitably goes with it.' ACT emphasizes the present moment and provides tools to help you feel better sooner.
