Getting to know Suzanne Barkawi

Please read: Upon booking, our office will contact you to walk through the next steps for your appointment. Please note that we do not accept Medicaid or Medicare at this time. I am a Licensed Associate Counselor dedicated to helping adolescents, adults, and families navigate life’s challenges with care and compassion. My approach combines Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, client-centered techniques, expressive arts, and trauma-informed care to address each person’s unique emotional and behavioral needs. I have years of experience supporting students and families through crisis intervention, psychoeducation, and restorative practices. I believe in creating a safe, non-judgmental space where clients feel heard, understood, and empowered to grow. Whether you’re managing anxiety, depression, trauma, or simply seeking clarity, we will work together to set achievable goals and build resilience. My commitment to ongoing training and reflective practice ensures that I bring the most effective, research-based strategies to every session. I look forward to meeting you and supporting you on your path toward greater well-being.

What should a new client know about working with you?

You can expect a warm, collaborative, and non-judgmental space where your story is heard and respected. I believe therapy is a partnership — you bring your lived experience and I bring evidence-based tools to help you make sense of it. My sessions are client-centered and flexible: we might use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, expressive arts, or solution-focused strategies depending on what works best for you. I often integrate trauma-informed practices and crisis intervention skills when needed. I value honesty, reflection, and setting realistic goals together. I welcome all questions, and I invite you to show up exactly as you are — no pressure to be “perfect.” Progress looks different for everyone, and we will move at your pace. My hope is that you leave each session feeling supported, understood, and better equipped to handle whatever comes next.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our work together begins with a thorough intake session where I get to know your history, current concerns, and what you hope to achieve in therapy. I’ll ask questions, but there’s no pressure — you set the pace. From there, we create an individualized treatment plan based on your needs and goals. Sessions are usually talk-based, using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and other approaches like expressive arts or trauma-focused techniques if they fit your style. I check in regularly to make sure we’re on track and adjust as needed. You can expect a balance of structured tools and open space to process your thoughts and feelings. Homework or coping strategies may be offered if they help reinforce progress between sessions. My goal is for you to leave each session feeling heard, validated, and more confident in your ability to navigate what life brings.
