What should a new client know about working with you?

Working with me is a non-linear productive process. The first 1-2 sessions often include me getting to know you and setting therapeutic goals together. After that, we work on immediate and pressing stressors in your life so we can best alleviate those first. Then we “dive into” the therapeutic work by processing your childhood, upbringing, any trauma you may have experienced, and anything else that is coming up for you. We work through these things by using what is working for you, and applying those skills to the areas where you are struggling (strengths-based approach). I will occasionally suggest exercises for you to do outside of session, should the intervention be deemed appropriate. A typical client in my practice is a collegiate female with a history and/or currently diagnosed with an eating disorder looking to have a healthy relationship with both food and herself.
