Getting to know Terry Thorpe

I am a graduate of both the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and Virginia Commonwealth University, with a master’s in social work. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with the state of Virginia. I have been working with individuals and families for approximately 18 years. I have extensive post graduate training in grief and trauma and how it affects us spiritually, mentally and physically. It leads to patterns of behavior that in the beginning, help us survive. But now, anxiety, depression, anger and many other negative issues are stunting our emotional growth, destroying relationships and placing our lives on hold.

What should a new client know about working with you?

What you can expect from me: A laid back atmosphere with someone who is easy to talk to and trained to guide you where you want to go.

More information on payments and coverage

Payment is due after each session and will be charged with your card on file for any portion of patient responsibility. Receipts will be provided at the time of the charge. This typically takes place 2-4 weeks after the session, once your insurance has had a chance to process the claim. We try our best to verify eligibility, but it is ultimately your responsibility to check coverage and out-of-pocket costs for services. For out-of-network visits, you will be billed at the provider’s self-pay rate, and we can provide an invoice for you to submit to your insurance for potential out-of-network reimbursement based on your plan’s benefits.

Terry is relatable in so many ways - I’ve never felt so completely HEARD by a provider.
Its been great to be challenged and have my ineffective thinking patterns identified
I have found her to be very helpful and insightful.
She was great

Terry is the absolute best. It was tough to pick just two things about her therapy style that stand out because she embodies every positive thing you want in a therapist. If I could talk to her everyday I ABSOLUTELY WOULD. She’s understanding and thoughtful while listening to me ramble with no end in sight (“Sometimes I’ll start a sentence and I don’t know where it’s going. I just hope to find it somewhere along the way. Like an improv conversation. An improversation.” - Michael Scott). Her observations and advice are genuinely helpful, and I don’t have to have the conversation all by myself. You know the way some therapists are, relying on the old “and how does that make you feel?”. None of that. She has realistic expectations of me, and creates achievable goals for me to improve and succeed one little bit at a time. Damn this is a lot. Okay bottom line - Terry is my new favorite person (and therapist!) and my life is so much better with her help in it. I hope someone actually reads this because she deserves for people to know how amazing she is. But not TOO many people.. I don’t want her getting too busy to talk to me. XD Ps- I’ve started and stopped this like 10 times because I have the attention span of a gnat, so apologies if it’s too chaotic to make sense. Terry can’t fix everything ??
