Trystan Balderston, LCPC

Psychotherapist
MD
Many of the people I work with have spent so much of their lives caring for others, meeting expectations, or pushing through difficult experiences that they've gradually lost connection with themselves. Whether you're navigating anxiety, depression, burnout, grief, relationship challenges, chronic stress, or a major life transition, therapy can become a place to better understand yourself and move forward with intention. My approach is built on the belief that healing involves both the mind and the body. Drawing from my backgrounds in exercise science and clinical mental health counseling, I integrate evidence-based therapies with mindfulness and somatic interventions to help clients understand how life experiences influence their thoughts, emotions, behaviors, relationships, and nervous system. Rather than simply reducing symptoms, my goal is to help you reconnect with your strengths, clarify what matters most to you, and build a life that reflects your values. Clients often describe me as calm, genuine, thoughtful, and empowering. I strive to create a collaborative space where you feel safe to be vulnerable, supported enough to be challenged, and confident enough to trust yourself as you continue your journey toward a meaningful and fulfilling life.

What should a new client know about working with you?

You are the expert on your own life. My role is not to tell you who you should become, but to help you better understand yourself and clear the obstacles that keep you from living in alignment with what matters most. During our work together, we'll explore your values, strengths, life experiences, and the ways your mind and body have adapted to life's challenges. Many of the patterns that once helped us cope can eventually leave us feeling stuck. Rather than judging those patterns, we'll seek to understand what they have been trying to accomplish and develop healthier ways to meet those same needs. My hope is that therapy becomes more than symptom relief. Together, we'll build practical skills, strengthen self-confidence, improve relationships, and help you live with greater intention so that your daily life reflects the person you want to be.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Each session begins with a brief opportunity to slow down and reconnect with the present moment, often through a mindfulness exercise. From there, we'll identify what feels most important for us to focus on that day and establish a shared direction for our work together. Throughout therapy, we'll explore how your past experiences continue to influence your present life while paying attention to both psychological and physiological responses. Depending on your needs, we may use cognitive strategies, somatic (body-based) approaches, mindfulness, values exploration, and practical skill-building to promote meaningful change. I believe insight is only one part of healing. Lasting growth comes from putting that insight into action. My goal is for you to leave each session not only with a deeper understanding of yourself, but with practical tools and greater confidence to navigate life outside the therapy room.
