Getting to know Valentina Hollinger

I specialize in working with adults experiencing chronic PTSD, complex trauma, anxiety, depression, emotional overwhelm, and the lasting effects of abuse, neglect, instability, or other painful life experiences. I also enjoy supporting young adults navigating major life transitions, including starting college, adjusting to life away from home, leaving college, beginning a career, developing an adult identity, and managing the uncertainty that often accompanies these changes.

What should a new client know about working with you?

The first session is about getting acquainted and building a foundation for future work. I will ask questions to understand what brings you to therapy. This might involve your symptoms, recent events, or past experiences that contribute to your current situation. We will discuss what you hope to achieve in therapy and create a preliminary plan that is flexible and can adjust as you progress. Remember, the first session is about laying the groundwork. It's a chance to see if you feel comfortable with my therapeutic approach and I invite any questions or concerns you may have.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Together, we can explore how your experiences continue to affect your present life, identify patterns that once helped you survive but may no longer serve you, and develop practical tools for managing distress. Our work may focus on reducing trauma symptoms, improving emotional regulation, strengthening boundaries, rebuilding self-trust, and helping you feel more present and connected to yourself. I understand that healing is rarely linear, particularly when trauma has been chronic or began early in life. I will meet you where you are while also helping you make meaningful progress toward the life you want. Whether you are carrying the effects of long-term trauma or trying to find your footing during a major transition, you do not have to navigate it alone. I welcome adults throughout Maryland and Pennsylvania for secure virtual therapy.
