My dissertation research topic was ?The Phenomenological Exploration of Academic Reengagement for High School Completion.? Professionally, I hold credentials as a School Social Worker, Supervision in Field Instruction (SIFI), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor (LCADC), Certified Clinical Supervisor (CCS), Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS), and Master Addiction Counselor (MAC). My practice experience spans substance abuse with and without medication assistance, mental health, and education. Currently, I serve as an Adjunct Professor at Passaic County Community College and Program Coordinator with Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care. I am a member of the United Holy Church of America Inc-Northern District Convocation; National Association of Black Social Workers-New Jersey Chapter; Women of Color-New Jersey; Parents Unified for Local School Education (PULSE)-Journey for Justice Alliance; Resource Trainer with People's Institute for Survival and Beyond Undoing Racism workshops; Alliance for Newark Public Schools; Newark Anti Violence Coalition; and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., established 1920 on the principles of scholarship, service, sisterhood, and finer womanhood.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Dr. Viva has substance abuse with/without medication assistance, anti-violence, acute care treatment, crisis stabilization experience, and clinical support expanding school-aged children to the geriatric population. Therapeutic approaches are CBT, Harm Reduction, and Motivational Interviewing. NJ, national, and USDOT clinical credentials which are LCSW, LCADC, CCS, ACS, MAC, and SAP. It takes courage to seek out assistance towards achieving this goal. I am here to support, empower, and facilitate your change process on this wellness journey.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

During the first session, we will explore your presenting issues and solutions to resolve those issues. Again, you are the expert and I am the professional; therefore, my role is to support you in your healing journey. The characteristics that make me unique is I follow your lead because I believe you know what you want but need help with getting it. Also, it is a “WE” instead of you and me. However, here are words from a client: “Dr. White is professional, while also being down to earth. She made me feel comfortable, seen and heard. She asked relevant questions and helped me realize things about myself that I hadn't thought about. When I started therapy with Dr. White, I was anxious and stressed. While I still have work to do on myself, I'm now in a better frame of mind, and feel much better about the direction my life is going.”
