Getting to know Dr. William Osei

I specialize in therapy for high-functioning adults whose anxiety affects their relationships, emotional balance, and day-to-day functioning. Many of the people I work with are capable and responsible — yet internally stuck in cycles of overthinking, burnout, procrastination, or constant pressure to get things right. Anxiety often shows up not as visible distress, but as mental exhaustion, irritability, difficulty relaxing, or ongoing strain in close relationships. My work focuses on anxiety and related patterns, including rigid or obsessive thinking that quietly shapes how people relate to themselves and others. For some clients this includes features of OCD — particularly when anxiety is driven by a strong need for certainty, control, or reassurance. While these patterns can support high functioning, they often limit flexibility and emotional closeness over time. My approach is structured, evidence-based, and goal-oriented. I primarily use cognitive behavioral therapy and exposure-based strategies, including ERP when appropriate, to help clients change how they respond to anxiety, fear, and uncertainty. Therapy is active and collaborative, with an emphasis on reducing avoidance, interrupting unhelpful patterns, and building responses that carry into daily life. I integrate skills-based work with thoughtful exploration of the beliefs and experiences that shaped these patterns. Sessions are intentional and paced, with clear goals and regular attention to progress. I frequently work with anxiety, burnout, chronic stress, procrastination driven by fear, and relationship difficulties connected to anxiety. I offer therapy through secure video sessions. Sessions are weekly and structured to support consistency and meaningful progress over time.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Working with me is structured, active, and collaborative. Therapy is not open-ended conversation or reassurance-focused support. We work deliberately to understand how anxiety operates in your life — how it shapes your thinking, emotions, relationships, and behavior. Sessions are goal-oriented and paced, with attention to progress over time rather than staying indefinitely in insight alone. My approach is grounded in cognitive behavioral therapy and exposure-based strategies, including ERP when appropriate. This means we focus on changing how you respond to anxiety, fear, uncertainty, and internal pressure — rather than trying to eliminate uncomfortable thoughts or feelings. Therapy often involves practicing new responses, tolerating discomfort, and interrupting the patterns that keep anxiety in control. I work best with thoughtful, motivated clients who value clarity, honesty, and accountability. I am direct and engaged, and I will offer feedback, structure, and guidance rather than leaving sessions uncontained. Therapy is also collaborative and respectful — there is space to reflect, ask questions, and adjust the work as it unfolds. Sessions are focused and, at times, challenging in a productive way. You can expect clear goals, practical tools, and consistent emphasis on applying what we discuss outside of session. Progress is talked about openly, and we revisit what is and isn't working as therapy develops. Therapy is a commitment to showing up consistently and doing the work between sessions. The goal is not perfection or quick fixes, but building steadier, more flexible ways of relating to anxiety — so it no longer dictates your choices or relationships.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The work usually begins with a focused assessment period. Early sessions are used to understand how anxiety shows up in your daily life, how it affects your relationships and functioning, and what patterns keep it going. We clarify goals together so therapy has direction rather than feeling open-ended or vague. Sessions are structured and active. We typically review what has come up since the previous session, examine specific situations or patterns, and work on applying skills or strategies in real time. This may include investigating thought patterns, emotional responses, behaviors, and relationship dynamics connected to anxiety. When appropriate, sessions may involve planning or reviewing exposure-based work, including ERP. My role is engaged and directive while still collaborative. I ask questions, offer observations, and help connect patterns across situations. Therapy is not just about talking through experiences — it is about learning new ways to respond to anxiety, uncertainty, and internal pressure. Most sessions include concrete takeaways or practices to continue between sessions so the work does not stop when the session ends. Progress is discussed openly and revisited regularly. If something is not helping, we adjust rather than stay stuck. Sessions are weekly to sustain momentum and drive meaningful change over time. Therapy is designed to be focused, intentional, and grounded in real life. The aim is to help anxiety loosen its grip so it no longer drives decisions, relationships, or self-expectations.

This was a bad experience for me. I made this appointment at a valuable time for me. I left work early for these appointments. They sent me a link to create a login for some faceless company named Otherkind. 10 minutes before my appointment, when I tried to log into my virtual visit, I saw that my appointment was cancelled without any notification. I filled out a ton of forms on their platform as Zocdoc asked me for the same information. I tried to reach out via their messaging app with no response. I also left a voicemail with no response. This is definitely not a good start to any mental health relationship.
