Dr. Young Ran Kim, PhD

Psychotherapist
1651 3rd Ave, Ste 205, New York, NY
Emotional suffering and pain often originate from early childhood experiences that shape our minds. The haunted ghost from our past takes residence in our minds, causing us to repeat unhealthy patterns and continue suffering. How can we free ourselves from this ghost’s spell? By providing a holding environment and sharing my genuine curiosity and psychoanalytic understanding, I help my patients sever the ties to the ghost from the past and break the spell. Gaining insight into the root of their symptoms and difficulties, along with a new experience in a therapeutic relationship, leads to psychological change, greater freedom, and enriched lives. I see a wide range of clients of varying ethnicity, race, class, and sexuality. I welcome Korean speakers and all immigrants who struggle with homesickness, social marginalization, and the pressures of acculturation. I also help patients in immigrant families navigate intergenerational conflicts and clashes between parents and children over cultural values. Dr. Young Ran Kim is a licensed psychoanalyst in New York and a licensed clinical psychologist in South Korea. Her therapeutic approach is rooted in psychodynamic and psychoanalytic orientation. She works with adults, children, and adolescents. Dr. Kim earned her PhD in Clinical Psychology from Catholic University of Korea, completed a residency in Clinical Psychology at Yonsei University, Sinchon Campus, and holds a Master’s degree in Philosophy from Ewha Womans University. She also trained at the Institute for Psychoanalytic Training and Research in Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy.
