Getting to know Zachariah Hocanson

With a specialty in PTSD and other trauma-related issues, I have effectively treated First Responders, Military personnel, and their families. Are you feeling stuck in another time and place? Do past events influence your current life in ways they shouldn’t? Do you or someone you care about suffer from thoughts and physical symptoms that weigh you down, feel overwhelming, and impede your ability to live your best life right now? I work with a broad range of techniques to bring you into the present and help you rise above the issues that may be haunting you. I hold a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Toledo and pride myself on a broad bench of modalities that can be used or combined to treat PTSD, Substance Use, Depression, and other challenges. With ten years of experience in CPT, CBT, and DBT, we will find the right method for your unique circumstances to get to the bottom of the issues plaguing you and free your brain from unnecessary weight. We will work together remotely, on your schedule, meeting as needed to progress toward your goals. I do not believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to therapy and take the time to get to know your unique background to create a practical plan for measurable improvement.

What should a new client know about working with you?

It is important for me as your therapist to get to know you as well as your goals to set appropriate expectations for what can be gained through individual therapy. I use an integrated approach to counseling, using a variety of therapeutic modalities based on my client's individual needs. The predominant modalities used are Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and Person Centered Therapy.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

When I first meet with you, it is important to me to get to know you as a whole person and your goals for therapy. Your goals are my goals! I work to create a non-judgmental and supportive environment to help dig into what is important to you to really work on. We will set incremental steps and use a variety of therapy styles to help you notice and make progress at a sustainable pace for life long change.

Very compassionate, helped me find strengh in some of my darkest times. respectful of my needs and boundaries, but continues to help me work on skills to be comfortable with myself and get stronger everyday.
felt empowered after my last appointment with zach, I have always had great calls with him, super professional and knowledgable overall
After trying to get through work-stress and anxiety on my own, I decided to try therapy for the first time with Zach. I wish I started sooner. He's helped me recognize my unhealthy/unhelpful thought patterns when they happen and re-train my way of thinking to be kinder to myself and limit the worry. Very thankful to have met him.
First therapist to really understand me, having dealt with severe depression and childhood trauma. A lot of other therapists didnt really understand or only focused on depression. Zach has connected the dots for me and has been phenomenal in working through it all. He provides great guidance, and has helped me overcome fears and make better goals. Dont know where i'd be without his help.
Zach was super helpful when it came to helping me understand and manage symptoms of my past traumas and PTSD, could not recommend enough!
He really helped our relationship, we've tried other couples counselors but Zach was the most helpful when it came to improving our communication and growing as a couple.
Zach has been incredible, he's helped me work through some past trauma and gave me the tool kits and support I needed to make better decisions going forward.
Zach has a warm, caring personality that it makes him really easy to talk to! He is helpful and possesses a depth of insight. Highly highly recommended.
