Getting to know Zarina Yangibayeva

Zarina creates a welcoming, approachable, and accepting environment for her clients. She believes in helping clients name and claim their own experiences. As a queer Muslim immigrant herself, Zarina has extensive experience supporting those grappling with anxiety, depression, queer and LGBTQ+ identities, immigrant challenges, religious trauma, grief and loss, and boundary-setting within family and relationship dynamics. Zarina holds a Master's in Social Work from Stony Brook University, which has further equipped her to tailor therapeutic methods to meet each client's unique needs. She ensures clients feel heard, understood, and empowered throughout their healing journey.

What should a new client know about working with you?

In our work together, you are at the center, recognizing that you are the expert in your own life. You’ll set the pace of our sessions, and I will meet you exactly where you are, with empathy, warmth, and respect for your unique experiences. My role is to support you with compassion while also gently holding you accountable to your goals and the intentions you bring to therapy. I use thoughtful, reflective questions to challenge limiting beliefs, encourage new perspectives, and help you gain deeper insight into yourself. We’ll build a collaborative space fostering growth, resilience, and meaningful change.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In our initial sessions, I focus on getting to know you—your story, strengths, challenges, and what you hope to gain from therapy. From there, we collaboratively set goals that feel meaningful and realistic for you. As we continue, I tailor our sessions to your needs, using evidence-based approaches and reflective questions to help you explore patterns, build insight, and develop practical tools. I check in regularly about what’s working, what isn’t, and adjust our approach as needed. Throughout the process, I aim to balance support with accountability, helping you move toward the changes you want to see at your own pace.

Zarina was an amazing support and helped me tremendously!
Very unprofessional. I do not recommend her AT ALL. She lied and said I missed an appointment that I attended and charged me $150

“Zarina was so kind and a sweet human being I am so glad to have as a therapist. I really felt she listened to what I had to say, giving me time to express myself and provided really insightful reflections and conversations in return. I felt she was especially able to help me have some strong self realization moments which has led to an incredible growth in my personal and mental health well being. As someone who is also part of the LGBTQ+ community, I felt she was especially understanding and compassionate; I felt able to be fully vulnerable and felt I could trust her fully. I would definitely recommend her to anyone both part of the LGBTQ+ community and beyond, you will definitely feel seen, respected and find yourself growing in such positive ways!
Zarina is unwaveringly kind and competent in her practice. I cannot thank her enough for being a non judgmental ear in my time of uncertainty in my life.
Zarina is unwaveringly kind and competent. I cannot thank her enough for being so non judgmental in my time of need. There is no one I’d trust more with my vulnerability.
Highly recommend Zarina as a therapist. As a child of immigrants who hold multiple identities across the spectrum, Zarina was able to provide the insights needed to unpack and work through these lived experiences with the right tools and mindsets to be successful. She’s helped me learn much of myself in ways I never consider, and anyone with similar needs would be lucky to have her as a therapist. More so than helping with recognition and acknowledgement of an issue, she was able to keep me accountable to resolve things I’ve always run away from.
I cannot recommend Zarina enough. From the very first session, she created a warm, welcoming, and non-judgmental space where I felt truly heard and understood. Thanks to Zarina I have gained invaluable insights and tools that have made a significant difference in my life. If you’re seeking a therapist who is highly skilled and deeply compassionate, Zarina is the perfect fit.
Zarina is an incredibly empathetic, kind, and intelligent therapist. She cares deeply about the people she works with, and made me feel like she really cared about the things I shared. She is able to connect and call out things I never would’ve put together that have helped me grow immensely. As a queer woman, I was thrilled with Zarina’s care and expertise in aiding those of us that are a part of the LGBTQ+ community, and she was incredibly effective in helping me. I can’t recommend her enough!!
