- Individual deductible and family deductible
An individual health plan has a single deductible. However, with a family plan, personal and family deductibles can be categorized as aggregate or embedded deductibles.
- Aggregate deductible: The plan starts covering costs only after you meet the total family deductible. This can happen when one person pays for a high-cost service that meets the deductible or when multiple family members contribute their own expenses until they reach the total. Once the family reaches the deductible, coverage will apply to all family members.
- Embedded deductible: The plan tracks two deductible amounts for each person: an individual and a family deductible. Costs paid by a family member count toward both.
