“Joel has such an amazing understanding of relationships, how our past affects our relationships and how we can individually show up in these relationships to create an even safer & loving environment. I was nervous to see a couple’s therapist, but Joel has normalized this process so much for my partner and I, we have genuinely felt our relationship grow since seeing Joel. We’re so happy to share our life with him!”

Getting to know Joel Gamache

My name is Joel Gamache. I am an LMFT in California, working with teens, adults, and couples using a psychodynamic approach. I earned my Master's in Marriage and Family and Child Therapy from the University of Phoenix. My approach I use a combination of body-based therapies, self-compassion, attachment theory, and object relations theory. My focus I specialize in traumatic stress, resolving childhood experiences, panic and anxiety attacks, thoughts of death, marital conflict, and relational communication. My communication style I typically ask about what is currently happening in people's lives and use that to explore unresolved experiences from the past. My journey to mental healthcare When the war in Iraq started, I thought the way I could serve my country was to work with people who come back with PTSD. It was a long journey, but wonderful, and I learned I love working with more than just this group of people. I especially love working with couples too! My goals for you I want clients to take control of their goals for therapy, and we talk about how they will know therapy did what they needed it to do for them. My first session with you The first session is easy. I try not to dig into the difficult things too much. I want to begin to build trust and get to know each other.
