Psychotherapist
CA
Hi, I’m Adrienne Scharnhorst. I’m an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist currently working under the supervision of a licensed practitioner at Hope Matters Institute. For over 10 years, I’ve been honored to walk alongside people as they navigate some of the hardest — and most hopeful — parts of their lives. My journey into this work began with a simple desire to help, volunteering as a crisis counselor for survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence while earning my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology at UC Davis. Since then, my path has led me through working in acute psychiatric hospitals and community mental health settings, experiences that deepened my belief in the strength and resilience that lives within each of us. Wanting to offer even more to the people I serve, I pursued my Master’s degree in Child, Marriage, and Family Therapy from the University of Phoenix in Sacramento. Along the way, I continued to grow my skills through specialized training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), perinatal mood disorders with Postpartum Support International (PSI), and Systematic Affair Recovery Therapy (SART) with Dr. Talal Alsaleem, PsyD, LMFT. Since then, I’ve had the opportunity to work in a variety of settings, including acute psychiatric hospitals and community mental health centers, which deepened my passion for helping others through life’s most challenging moments. I went on to complete my Master’s degree in Child, Marriage, and Family Therapy at the University of Phoenix in Sacramento.

What should a new client know about working with you?

At the heart of my work is a belief that healing happens in a safe, supportive space where you feel seen, heard, and valued. Wherever you are in your journey, it would be my privilege to support you as you move toward healing, growth, and hope.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

You can expect to be supported through self-exploration, creative expression, and, when helpful, gently encouraged to step outside of your comfort zone. I strive to create a safe, nonjudgmental space where you can share your thoughts, feelings, and experiences openly as you work toward healing and personal growth.
