Dr. Cortney Akers, DO

OB-GYN
1450 Matthews Township Pkwy, Ste 300, Matthews, NC
My path to obstetrics and gynecology began with a love of science and a deeply personal moment: watching my sister go through pregnancy sparked a curiosity in me that never faded. That curiosity grew into a calling, and I have spent my career dedicated to advancing women's health at every stage of life. A native of Little Rock, Ark., my passion for evidence-based, equitable healthcare grew along with my educational accomplishments. I am board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology and robotic surgery certified, and I bring that expertise to every patient interaction with a focus on compassionate, patient-centered care. Beyond the exam room, my work extends into research and community. My work focused on women's health, patient outcomes and advancing equitable healthcare practices has appeared in respected academic journals. As an advocate for health equity, I am committed to ensuring that all women, regardless of background, have access to the care they deserve. That commitment also inspired me to write the children's book "STEM Looks Like Me," created to encourage young people to see themselves represented in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Through both my clinical work and community engagement, I strive to expand opportunities and representation for future generations. In 2022, I married my husband, Kevin, and we welcomed our daughter, Ava, in July 2025. Outside of medicine, I cherish time with my family, traveling and sharing good laughs with friends. Meaningful connections, lifelong learning and creating memories with the people I love most are what keep me grounded.
