When I was in medical school, I struggled to settle on a specialty - until I found obstetrics and gynecology. I loved both medicine and surgery and was thrilled to learn that OB-GYN seemed to be the perfect blend of those two disciplines. It provides me the opportunity to take care of patients over much of their lifetime, and even be there for some of the most sacred moments. Be it confirming a pregnancy for a younger patient, or providing care during a reproductive cancer later in life, it is a privilege to be there for those life events and truly meet patients where they are. High-risk obstetrics, abnormal bleeding and endocrine issues are all special interests of mine. I also enjoy completing gynecologic surgery. Regardless of the concern, I start by listening to my patients so I can understand their worries and questions. I focus on patient education, making sure patients understand why they might have a certain condition, and how a treatment or recommendation may best improve their outcome. I am interested in community health and focus on social drivers of health; I work to understand the lifestyle factors that could be impacting my patients' quality of life. That focus, along with my global health experience, makes me very aware that there is more to healthcare than medicine.
