Dr. Laura Ramsay, MD

OB-GYN
114 Charlois Blvd, Winston-Salem, NC
My path to medicine was anything but conventional. Before pursuing a career in healthcare, I began my professional life as a ballet dancer directly from high school. After that early artistic focus, my deep appreciation for science, the human body and women's health ultimately led me toward medicine. What drew me in was the way medicine combines scientific rigor with the art of applying that knowledge to each individual patient. Every patient needs a unique approach, and that challenge never gets old. I was honored to spend eight years active duty in the United States Navy as a Medical Corps obstetrician-gynecologist. During that time, I developed both leadership and surgical skills. Throughout my career, I have been able to use those skills to place an emphasis on minimally invasive procedures and techniques. This allows me to offer patients more options and flexibility to get back to their daily lives with less pain and faster recovery. My approach to care is patient-centered, with a strong emphasis on patient education. I want to make sure patients understand their condition and their options clearly. Engaging patients in the conversation is essential, leading to better decisions and better outcomes. At Novant Health, that kind of collaborative care is central to how we work. Over the course of my career, I have been honored to receive recognition from colleagues and institutions whose standards I hold in high regard. On the military side, my service as an obstetrician-gynecologist in the Navy brought some of the most meaningful professional experiences of my life. That service was recognized with the Navy and Marine Corps Meritorious Service Medal in 2012, the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal in 2009, a Letter of Commendation from the Admiral of Navy Medicine East in 2009 and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal in both 2006 and 2008.
