Madison MacMaster, AMFT

Marriage and Family Therapist
CA
My path into mental health is personal. Growing up, I saw how mental illness, addiction, and intergenerational trauma can affect an entire family. Those experiences shaped my belief that our past matters, but it does not have to define what comes next. I work with adolescents, adults, couples, and families experiencing trauma, anxiety, depression, OCD, grief, relationship difficulties, identity concerns, and life transitions. My approach is warm, collaborative, and direct when helpful. I especially enjoy working with complex and childhood trauma, attachment and family-of-origin concerns, and recurring relationship patterns. My goal is to help you better understand what shaped you while building healthier ways of coping, connecting, and moving forward.

What should a new client know about working with you?

You can come to therapy exactly as you are—you do not need to have the right words or know where to begin. My approach is warm, collaborative, and honest, and I will also be direct when it is helpful. I want our work to feel supportive but meaningful. We will spend time understanding the experiences and patterns that shaped you, while also focusing on practical changes that can help you feel more grounded, connected, and confident moving forward.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

We’ll start by getting to know what brings you to therapy, what has been feeling difficult, and what you hope will change. I’ll also ask about important relationships, past experiences, and patterns that may be affecting you now. From there, we’ll work together to identify goals and focus on both understanding the deeper roots of what you’re experiencing and making practical changes in everyday life. I’ll check in regularly about what feels helpful so our work can continue to fit your needs and goals.
