Dr. Margaret Sabourin, DO

OB-GYN
881 Leonard Fulghum Blvd, Ste 103, Mount Pleasant, SC
I've always known I wanted to make an impact on the lives of others. I had an aptitude for science and considered several career paths related to the sciences before ultimately deciding on medicine and becoming the first physician in my family. During my college summers, I volunteered in hospitals and clinics. After graduating from college, I worked for a year as a research assistant at Vanderbilt University's department of microbiology, pathology and immunology. It was ideal experience leading up to entering medical school the next year. Once I began rotations in medical school, I quickly fell in love with obstetrics and gynecology. It's a field that allows me to create meaningful relationships with patients during what can be some of the most vulnerable times in their lives. And I'm able to build relationships with patients that endure for decades, perform complex surgical procedures and take part in deliveries. It's an emotional, challenging and exciting specialty that I'm grateful to be part of. I am passionate about women's health, and above all, I'm committed to doing what's best for my patients. As an osteopathic physician, I was trained to look at the patient as a whole person, rather than focus only on her symptoms that brought her to my office. I work hard to gain the trust of my patients so they'll feel comfortable in my care. I enjoy staying current on the latest innovations in medical research and care about practicing evidence-based medicine. I have a special interest in minimally invasive gynecological surgery and am proud to offer robotic and laparoscopic surgical care. While I never want any patient to face a high-risk pregnancy, I have made a specialty of it and also have experience in the medical management of other gynecological issues, including abnormal bleeding, uterine fibroids, endometriosis and pelvic pain.
