From an early age I was interested in how the human body functions and knew that healthcare was going to be my career. That path became clear before I even started medical school, when I was given the opportunity to participate in a delivery. From that point on, I was hooked on the field of OB-GYN, and that experience led me to where I am today. My style of practice is centered on helping patients feel as comfortable and heard as possible. Having the knowledge and expertise to treat an issue is vital, but if a patient leaves an appointment feeling dismissed, I have not done my job to the standard I expect of myself. I also firmly believe in shared decision-making. It is not my job to tell a patient what to do next. My purpose is to provide each patient with all the information and counseling necessary for them to make the right decision for themselves and feel empowered in their own healthcare. During my residency I received an award for excellence in laparoscopic surgery, a recognition that supports my focus and dedication to this role. When I'm not working, I'm spending time with friends and my fianc, who also works in healthcare. We have a dog, Lil Shep, who was rescued from a shelter in Colorado. My mother is from the Caribbean, where she currently lives, so whenever possible we try to visit her and my extended family there. To stay active, I exercise regularly and enjoy playing chess.
