Dr. Thor Svendsen, MD

OB-GYN
1918 Randolph Rd, Ste 670, Charlotte, NC
My path to medicine was not a straight line. Science has always captivated me, but my initial career goal was to be a musician. It wasn't until my 20s that I began seriously considering medicine, and the decision became clear during my wife's first pregnancy and delivery. Watching her care unfold, observing her physicians at work, I knew immediately that's what I wanted to do. Obstetrics and gynecology chose me as much as I chose it. Being a focused listener is central to how I practice. Much of what I need to know, a patient will tell me if I take the time to truly hear her. Listening isn't passive; it's one of the most active and important things I do in an exam room. Beyond that, I see my role as an advocate. Good medicine isn't just about diagnosis and treatment. It's about standing in your patient's corner, especially with the complexities of modern healthcare, where that kind of advocacy matters more than ever. As for accomplishments, mine are much more personal: being a good husband and a role model for my children, and now grandchildren. With that said, I was honored to serve as president of the North Carolina Obstetrical and Gynecological Society from 2023 to 2024.
