MDs/DOs vs. NDs
The educational structure is similar for MDs, DOs and NDs, especially in the first two years. It is primarily focused on biomedical sciences such as anatomy and biochemistry, as well as diagnostic sciences, such as evidence-based medicine and physiological assessment. From the third year, all the medical programs focus on hands-on clinical training. Naturopathic students often have clinical practice even in their first and second year. A significant difference between MDs and NDs is medical residencies. While residencies are mandatory for MDs, this is not the case for NDs. Naturopathic residencies are not standard as they aren’t required by most states.
