Psychotherapist
NY
I am a licensed mental health counselor and credentialed alcohol and substance abuse counselor working out of my private practice in Syracuse, NY. I hold a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Syracuse University. In my practice, I provide therapy, somatic performance and wellness coaching for adolescents and adults, as well as consulting and supervision. I began my journey as a counselor over 10 years ago, serving clients in intensive outpatient substance use treatment. During this time, I recognized the connection between the stuckness clients experienced as a result of unaddressed trauma, depression, chronic pain, and anxiety, and the opportunity for addiction to take hold in their lives. I became committed to seeking ways to work with the whole of a person’s experience, rather than just managing their symptoms. In discovering Somatic Experiencing®, I began to transform the way I practiced as a counselor. I later transitioned to working as a therapist for students at Syracuse University and served for several years on specialized teams for sexual and relationship violence response and alcohol and drug treatment, as well as working for a year with their eating disorders team. In these various settings, and regardless of the issue being addressed, common themes have informed my approach to working with clients. I have found that building or restoring capacity for safe embodiment, increasing access to nervous system regulation, and developing a therapeutic relationship that allows experiences to be deeply heard, seen, and given voice have been key to transformative change. Through therapy and these transformative experiences, I have witnessed possibilities open up in the lives of clients that once felt unreachable. I work with clients to facilitate the discovery of untapped strengths, implicit wisdom, and somatic resources that can be utilized to address individual goals and promote personal growth.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I specialize in providing a gentle, guiding, and relational approach that brings people into contact with their mind and body through the nervous system's connection to sensation, image, behavior, affect and meaning. We will address the root of issues, build you up and help you move toward goals that are important to you. You will know I'm with you every step of the way.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My process entails taking an intentional and personally tailored approach to treatment. This means that the therapy process starts with and always prioritizes understanding the unique needs, social and cultural context, and developmental trajectory of each individual. We will determine how best to work together, including the focus of sessions and preferences for talk therapy, and whether integrating somatic and body work would add value to the experience. My sessions start and end with practices like getting oriented to the space and ensuring clients can establish a baseline of relative comfort going into the content they want to work with and concluding feeling prepared to transition to the rest of their day.
