Getting to know Aaron Schwartz

Are you wondering about your use of substances, drugs or other addictive behaviors like sex, food or love? Are you having any challenges that are related to identifying as LGBTQIA? Are you a young adult trying to figure out who you are? Are relationships in your life causing you a great deal of stress? These are just a few areas that I specialize in. I believe I can successfully help you navigate these and other challenges in your life. I work very hard on creating a sense of safety and trust in the therapeutic space with clients, as these are key ingredients to help allow you to be able to open up and be vulnerable with me.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I work from an integrative, humanistic and relational perspective in my work with clients. I never claim to be the expert on your life as YOU are the only expert. I do strive to create an environment that feels safe and nonjudgmental so growth and progress can be facilitated. I believe the relationship that is built between clients and I is a strong catalyst for change and I often make observations about this in my sessions. I am a very kind, sensitive and empathic therapist. I also openly identify as a gay man and have many clients who identify as part of the LGBTQIA population BUT I also work with many heterosexual clients as well.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I offer 55-minute psychotherapy sessions, this includes the first and subsequent sessions. I spend the first several sessions collecting a history, as this is a core part of our current adult identities. I don't only spend those sessions getting a history, I also allow time to get current and understand why you are seeking therapy.
