Getting to know Aaron Shragge

Creative practices can often be a safer and more direct way of expressing, experiencing and understanding the most challenging emotions. I'm a creative arts therapist who has been working in New York for over fourteen years. I integrate my experience as a performer in Jazz, improvised and World music as well as my zen practice of over twenty years into a unique and effective approach to therapy. Using both verbal psychotherapy and creative art mediums in a safe and supportive environment I work to guide the therapeutic process towards achieving a client's unique goals.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I specialize in working with clients with depression, anxiety, addiction, ASD, trauma and ADHD. I bring together psychodynamic depth and mindfulness — sometimes with music, sometimes without. My work is warm, exploratory, and grounded in who you actually are. No previous musical experience required.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

The first session is mostly me getting to know you — what brought you here, what you've tried before, and what you're hoping for. There's no intake form to read aloud. I'll ask questions and actually listen. We'll talk about what's bothering you and start to figure out what kind of support makes sense.
