Getting to know Abby Newton

Abby is a New York State Licensed Master Social Worker. She obtained her bachelor’s degree in Sociology from SUNY Potsdam and her Master’s in Social Work from SUNY Albany. Abby has been working as a social worker in many different capacities for the past 5 years. She began her journey working in a residential facility with youth ages 10-18 years old, completing both group and individual therapy. Following this position, Abby began working as a school-based clinician providing individual and group counseling to elementary, middle, and high school aged students. It is important to Abby that clients feel heard, listened to, and empowered to be the best version of themselves. It is Abby’s hope to create this environment for her clients. Abby feels comfortable working with different therapy models and believes that not one model fits all. She feels that it is important to meet her clients where they are, and work with them individually to build an appropriate model best suited for them. She is also trained in crisis intervention, through Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) training. Abby lives in Latham with her husband and bernadoodle, Ava. Abby enjoys seeing the world, being outdoors, and spending time with friends and family.
