Psychotherapist
402 S Marengo Ave, Pasadena, CA
During certain seasons of our lives, our vision may narrow, & our lives can feel constricted; we might become estranged from our true selves & disconnect from a sense of aliveness, spontaneity, expansiveness, & wonder. We might feel anxious, lonely, numb, conflicted, confused, hopeless, self-critical, or caught in familiar, yet painful, cycles of reacting & relating. Perhaps a part of us longs to become acquainted with ourselves on a deeper level, but we feel fearful of what we might uncover, or what parts of ourselves we might have to face. I view mental health as a lifelong process of continually learning how to navigate, tolerate, & hold the dualities, complexities, liminalities, & uncertainties inherent in life, while maintaining an authentic & meaningful relationship to the self & others. From here, we can see & experience ourselves, each other, & our lives more fully. I am a culturally-sensative, trauma-informed, & neuro-affirming psychodynamic therapist. I draw from relational, attachment, existential, & intersubjective perspectives. Inspired by postmodern ideas, I am attentive to the ways that context, & systems of privilege, power, & oppression inform our lived experiences, psyches, and broader communities. My practice centers intersectional queer liberation & sex positivity Coming to therapy, where we confront both your light & shadow, is a radical act of bravery. I have profound respect for the courage it takes to trust another to accompany you on your journey inward.

What should a new client know about working with you?

In the age of algorithms, artificial intelligence, & parasocial relationships, I believe more than ever in the importance of genuine presence & connection. We are wired for attachment, closeness, & intimacy, & just as we are wounded in relationship, I believe that we also heal in relationship. Beyond theory or modality, I sincerely value & cherish the unique relationship I form with each client. Rather than viewing you as a set of symptoms, or as a problem to be fixed, I see you as a unique, whole, & complex human being who has learned how to survive & adapt to the sometimes destabilizing, painful, & unpredictable internal & external seismic shifts of a life marked by unrelenting impermanence, uncertainty, liminality, & loss, while navigating systems that privilege certain identities, bodies, relationships, & ways of being while marginalizing others. I understand symptoms as messengers, often communicating something within us that has been disavowed, left unattended, or perhaps is asking to be seen, heard, felt, & understood. As depth psychologist James Hillman beautifully said, “Pathology is not a problem to be solved, but the soul's way of working on itself.” My approach is warm, collaborative, direct, & gently confrontational. I aim to create a welcoming and supportive space where all parts of you can be witnessed, felt, and held, as we cultivate curiosity toward your inner world, together.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I find that meaningful change occurs through both the ongoing development of insight & having lived emotional experiences. In our work together, we will bring awareness to past experiences, relational dynamics, tune into your body’s cues, & illuminate unconscious processes, including feelings & dynamics that emerge between us in the therapeutic relationship. We will explore how these experiences have formed the lenses through which you see & relate to yourself, others, & the world. As these patterns become more visible as we cast light onto your shadow, we can begin to loosen what has felt immutable & begin to expand the horizon of possibility. Together, we can honor all of the ways your relational dynamics, patterns, & brilliant systems of defenses once served to protect you and keep you safe, while also recognizing where they may now be limiting you. From there, we can create space for more intentional & aligned ways of seeing, being, relating, & moving through the world.
