Adam Birkenstock, LCSW

Psychotherapist
NY
I’m Adam, a licensed clinical social worker specializing in treating new or worsening anxiety, OCD and identity concerns. I also support LGBTQIA+ people in navigating the pressures of work, relationships, family, and emerging adulthood. I ground my work in evidence-based and evidence-supported practices, clinical integrity, and a strong belief that care should be individualized, affirming, practical, and holistic. I also have experience supporting people and families in recovery from addiction, having directed a non-profit addiction counseling center for 9 years. Therapy offers a unique opportunity - a space just for you where there's no judgement and no expectations, where you can share freely about your life and get real, meaningful support and suggestion. My work focuses on providing that safe space to become the best version of you. Taking the first step is as simple as sending an e-mail or giving a call. It's important for you to feel comfortable with a therapist, and I'm happy to chat so we can see if it's a good fit!

What should a new client know about working with you?

I often use person-centered, strength-based, and CBT approaches to help you build towards a change that is personal, actionable, and approachable. Typically, we'll identify the challenges you face and explore what's worked for you and what hasn't. Then we'll use a best-fit approach to build and strengthen the skills you need to put these challenges behind you.
