“Working with Adam has been a deeply meaningful part of my journey. His presence feels steady, attuned, and deeply human — the kind of presence that settles my nervous system. He brings a trauma-informed lens that’s both gentle and precise, and I can feel how seriously he takes my safety, my story, and my pace. One of the things I value most about Adam is the way he holds and models holding complexity. He’s able to sit with the full truth — the messy parts, the tender parts, the contradictory parts — and create room for all of it with clarity and compassion. His questions are powerful: they interrupt my old patterns, open new perspectives, and challenge me to see myself and my relationships in a more honest and liberating light. I leave our sessions feeling more rooted and empowered. Adam is skilled, wise, and grounded. He walks with me in a way that feels safe, spacious, and real. I’m deeply grateful for his support and would recommend him wholeheartedly.”

Getting to know Adam Bugay

I believe therapy is a place where you should feel safe, understood, and supported as you work through life’s challenges. My approach combines existential philosophy with practical, evidence-based techniques, such as CBT, ACT, and exposure therapy. This means we can explore deeper questions of meaning and purpose while also building concrete skills to help you manage anxiety, depression, relationship struggles, or the impact of past trauma. I work with a wide range of clients and concerns, but I have two special areas of focus: trauma and couples counseling. As a military veteran, I have a personal understanding of how overwhelming and isolating trauma can feel, and I tailor my approach to help clients process their experiences and reclaim a sense of safety and strength. In couples work, I support partners in rebuilding trust, improving communication, and deepening their connection. While these are areas of particular interest, my practice is not limited to them—I enjoy working with individuals and couples from all walks of life. I hold a Master’s in Mental Health Counseling from Touro University, Executive Offices, and my goal is to help clients gain greater self-awareness, develop effective coping strategies, and move toward a life that feels more meaningful and balanced. Whether you’re seeking healing, growth, or stronger relationships, I strive to meet you where you are and support you in creating positive, lasting change.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Through the therapeutic process, clients can expect to gain increased self-awareness, personal growth, and the development of effective coping strategies. I strive to provide clients with relevant and practical support in their daily lives through tailored, evidence-based interventions. I aim to empower individuals to find meaning and purpose, fostering overall well-being and supporting their journey towards all-round development

What is your typical process for working with clients?

In the first session, I will complete an intake assessment to gather as much information as possible, assess your situation more thoroughly, and get to know you, your history, and the concerns that have brought you to therapy, thereby setting up goals. In the following sessions, we will engage in talk therapy, drawing on various modalities to help you achieve your goals. Our sessions are 45 min in length on a weekly basis. Please allow 15 minutes before the session to do the intake paperwork.

My visit with Adam was spectacular. Ask him for specifically.
I felt listen to and he genuinely wanted to work with me
Unfortunately, the doctor never showed up for the Zoom visit. I got no communication from the office before or after the scheduled time it was as if my appointment did not matter.

I am very impressed with Adam as a counselor. He’s been able to offer insight into my relationship and gave me concrete tools to improve communication and deepen trust.
I’ve been seeing Adam for several months now, and I really can’t recommend him enough. From our very first session, he made me feel heard and understood, which was such a relief, given I've had negative experiences in the past with other therapists who I felt were sometimes trying to dismiss me. Adam is not only incredibly knowledgeable about different forms of trauma, but he also takes the time to listen attentively and tailor his approach to my particular situation. He communicates very well and with great empathy, making sure I never feel rushed or dismissed. He can tell he has a naturally caring nature and his ability to truly connect with me as a patient has made a huge difference in my journey toward healing. I always leave our sessions feeling more better than when I entered. If you're looking for a therapist who is both professional and compassionate, Adam is definitely the one to see!
Adam does a phenomenal job at creating a safe space to share my most inner thoughts. He is empathetic, honest, and relatable, allowing for a deep, thought-provoking conversation to get to the root of my feelings and thoughts. Wise beyond his years, Adam consistently provides sound advice to contend with the challenges that life offers.
Adam is an insightful and empathetic couples counselor who creates a safe space for open communication and mutual understanding. His thoughtful guidance and evidence-based techniques empower couples to resolve conflicts, strengthen their connection, and build healthier relationships. Adam is incredibly approachable and has a natural ability to make you feel comfortable from the start. With his supportive approach and wise advice, he helps you navigate challenges without ever feeling judged.
