Adina Antar, LPC, LMHC

Adina Antar, LPC, LMHC

Psychotherapist
3321 Doris Ave, Bldg B Ste 3, Ocean Township, NJ
The provider is a “Licensed Professional Counselor" and their license number is 37PC00730200. As many helpers in the psychology field, I have had previous life experiences that led me to this path of supporting others who have faced similar challenges. I chose to become a therapist because of my natural empathy and my ability to listen deeply, while also using practical tools like problem solving and a bit of “playing detective.” I enjoy helping clients who feel stuck to uncover what is keeping them in place, and then gently breaking those negative cycles so they can move forward. I believe that even small shifts can create meaningful change, and I’m here to walk alongside you through that process. My experience as a parent has also shaped my work, especially in supporting other parents through the difficult moments that can arise. Parenting can bring up a lot of emotions and uncertainty, and I aim to provide a safe space where you can explore what is happening without judgment. I also draw on my experience to connect with children and teens in a way that feels relatable and understandable to them. Whether you’re struggling with behavior, anxiety, communication, or feeling overwhelmed, I’m here to help you feel more confident and supported in your role as a parent.

What should a new client know about working with you?

While my foundation in therapy is rooted in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Psychodynamic therapy, Gestalt, somatic therapy, and play therapy, I truly believe that therapy should never be a “one size fits all” approach. Each person comes with their own unique story, life experiences, and reasons for seeking counseling. I take the time to understand who you are and what has brought you to therapy, and I tailor my approach to fit your individual needs. Therapy is most effective when it feels personally relevant and respectful of your journey. I also strongly believe that the strongest predictor of progress and results is the therapeutic alliance between therapist and client. Without trust, support, and a sense of safety in the relationship, real growth is difficult to achieve. My goal is to meet you where you are and work alongside you as a unified team. When you feel heard, understood, and supported, you’re able to take meaningful steps forward in treatment, and that is what I’m here to help you do.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Through my warm and observational nature, I aim to help you feel comforted and supported while also helping you develop insight into what keeps you feeling stuck. Many people find themselves repeating the same cycles again and again, and I’m here to help you notice the patterns that may be driving those experiences. While we work in the here-and-now to stay grounded in reality, we will also gently untangle the webs created by past relationships and events. The goal is to help you move forward feeling more free, intuitive, and connected to yourself. My work with children is similarly warm and supportive, creating a space where they can begin to understand and name their emotions. I believe emotional intelligence starts with feeling safe enough to explore what’s going on inside, so they can learn how to cope with big feelings in a healthy way. When working with a child client, I also collaborate closely with parents to ensure there is a full support system in place. Together, we address any concerns and work on recommendations that can help the child at home and strengthen the parent-child relationship.
