Getting to know Adrienne Achille

I am a licensed counselor and play therapist who specializes in working with the neurodiverse population (e.g. Autism; Down Syndrome; ADHD; learning differences) to improve emotional regulation, self-esteem, and interpersonal relationships. I work with kids as young as 3 and believe that a child is most successful when the family system is strong and healthy. Parenting sessions are an important part of the therapy process as they help the counselor understand progress and help the parents build their toolbox to best support their child.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I utilize experiential therapy, which goes beyond traditional talk therapy using art, play, somatic movement, mindfulness, music, and sandtray to facilitate healing and growth by moving out of the cognitive and into the subconscious experience. Especially for children who are still developing cognitively, play and art are the best ways to facilitate healing as play is a child's language.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Therapy begins with an assessment session (1 hour session with parents only if working with children) where the counselor will ask questions and discuss the treatment process. After that individual sessions begin with the client (45 minute sessions) that involve rapport building and the treatment phase (i.e. working toward goals). Parents may be asked to join for family sessions or parent sessions. When goals are met we will decrease the frequency of session until goals are maintained.
