Getting to know Adrienne Banh

The provider is an Associate Professional Clinical Counselor and is currently working under the supervision of a licensed practitioner. Their current employer is Freedom Within Therapy and Wellness Center. Hello, my name is Adrienne. I am a registered Associate Professional Clinical Counselor(APCC). I have a strong passion for supporting marginalized groups. Specifically, my work tailors to the lived experiences of the BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ communities, survivors of intimate partner violence and sexual assault, and individuals with disabilities. I enjoy supporting my clients in searching for empowerment, curiosity, and autonomy. I utilize a client-centered and trauma-informed approach to meet my clients where they are. As a first-Generation Southeast Asian Woman, I feel connected to supporting clients navigate systems of oppression. I believe that my clients are the author of their stories and I am here to further instill agency and strengths.

What should a new client know about working with you?

In my experience growing up in a Southeast Asian culture, mental health was often unspoken or viewed as nonexistent. There were perpetual and harmful narratives around tending to emotional needs, which frequently encouraged silence over support. I approach this work with cultural humility, recognizing the impact of intergenerational experiences, systemic influences, and cultural values on how we understand and express emotional well-being. Through my own journey and clinical work, I’ve come to believe that there is profound strength in softness, in honoring our emotions, cultivating self-awareness, and courageously exploring what matters most to us. I view mental health as an ongoing process of reconnecting with ourselves and deepening our values in ways that feel authentic, respectful, and empowering.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I strive to create a space that feels warm, safe, and empowering. My goal is to cultivate a therapeutic environment where you can externalize your emotions, gently take risks, and move toward growth at your own pace. I believe that healing begins with curiosity, openness, and heartwork. I also believe that you are the storyteller of your own world. My role is not to rewrite your story, but to walk alongside you as we navigate moments of writer’s block, make sense of challenging chapters, and celebrate the ones that reflect your strength, resilience, and growth. My work is grounded in evidence-based approaches, including Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), the Community Resiliency Model (CRM), and Mindfulness. Together, we can aim to focus on building insight and practical tools that support meaningful and lasting change.
