Ah Hyun (Ashley) Lee, LCSW

Psychotherapist
CA
*** I do not prescribe medication. My practice accepts Cigna, Oscar, Optum (UHC/UBH), UMR, Private Pay, and PPO plans for out-of-network benefits. *** I encourage you to open up in our therapy sessions and see what it is like working with me! The relationship between you and me is fundamental and at the heart of trauma work. Many clients find my approach to be warm, present, and listening/engaging in the first 1-4 sessions that continue to build and create a safe and reflective space for your concerns that have brought you to therapy. I offer EMDR therapy to process specific distressing memories, images, and events that expedite the healing process. I also emphasize the trust in the relationship with me (not just hope for therapy) as essential for EMDR therapy to work. Individuals who have found me helpful mostly have been people of color, those with family conflicts, trauma history (childhood or adulthood), immigrant experiences in the family, physical injuries/accidents, cancer survivors, postpartum depression, and members of the LGBTQIA+ community. While there is no prescriptive length of therapy for my clients, you can generally expect an improvement of your symptoms in about 4 months or less with specific issues or concerns. There may be more to process, and I will continue to support you through that. With multiple areas that we work on, we may need 1-2 years to get you back on track in life where you want to be and to continue to grow. I hold a Master's in Social Work from the University of Chicago and a Bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. I am excited to meet any one of you who knock on my door.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I am a relational therapist and an EMDR Certified clinician. This means our therapeutic relationship is the foundation of our work leading to recovery and healing. I will be curious to learn about you, be present with you to provide emotionally grounding experience, share my insights and ask your thoughts, and connect with you at a deeper level. I will also assess if EMDR therapy would be a good fit for you. If so, we will go through a structured and standardized therapy process based on my guidance.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

You will join me on a video platform, based on your preference. We will begin with an assessment of your symptoms, needs, and goals during our initial appointment. We will then discuss the treatment approach appropriate for your needs. Most likely, we will continue once a week for individual psychotherapy or EMDR therapy to target the concerns and alleviate presenting symptoms and problems.
