Ahmy Brock, LMFT

Ahmy Brock, LMFT

Psychotherapist
NY
With over 25 years of experience as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, I've had the opportunity to work with people navigating many of life's challenges. One thing I've learned is that people are remarkably resilient, even when they've lost sight of their own abilities. I work with adults who are experiencing anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, life transitions, or simply feeling overwhelmed by the demands of everyday life. My approach is warm, conversational, and practical. I believe therapy works best when you feel comfortable being yourself. You can expect compassion, honest feedback, a little humor when appropriate, and a therapist who is actively engaged in helping you develop skills you can use in your daily life. I draw primarily from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Solution-Focused Therapy. I also help clients become more aware of the connections between their thoughts, emotions, and physical responses. Understanding these patterns can create opportunities to respond differently to life's challenges. I believe you already possess valuable strengths and abilities. Sometimes life gets complicated, and we need a little help recognizing those strengths, learning new skills, or finding a different way to approach what's happening. My goal is to help you better understand yourself, become more comfortable navigating difficult experiences, and feel increasingly confident in your ability to handle whatever life brings your way. You don't have to have everything figured out before beginning therapy. We can start right where you are.

Getting to know Ahmy Brock

What should a new client know about working with you?

You can expect a warm, relaxed, and supportive environment where you can show up exactly as you are. You don't need to have the right words, know where to begin, or have everything figured out. My style is conversational, direct, and practical. I'll listen carefully, ask questions, offer honest feedback, and sometimes challenge you to consider a different perspective. I also bring humor into our conversations when appropriate. Life is challenging enough without every therapy session feeling heavy! I believe you already have strengths and abilities that we can build upon. We'll work together to understand what's happening in your life, recognize patterns that may be creating difficulties, and develop skills that help you navigate challenges with greater confidence. Therapy is a collaborative process. I encourage curiosity, openness, and a willingness to try new approaches. You can expect to be an active participant in your own growth, with support and guidance along the way.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our first session is an opportunity for us to get acquainted. I'll ask about what brings you to therapy, what you've been experiencing, and what you'd like to be different in your life. You'll also have time to ask questions and get a feel for how I work. From there, we'll identify areas you'd like to focus on and develop a plan that makes sense for you. My approach draws primarily from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Solution-Focused Therapy. In everyday language, that means we'll explore how your thoughts, emotions, physical responses, and behaviors influence your experiences. Sessions are conversational and interactive. Depending on what you're working through, we may explore patterns in your thinking, practice ways to respond to uncomfortable emotions, develop communication skills, or work on handling situations that have been difficult. I often encourage clients to practice what we're learning between sessions. Even small changes in everyday situations can help you build confidence in your ability to navigate life. We'll regularly check in on your progress and adjust our approach as your needs evolve.
