Aidee Villeda Diaz, LPC

Psychotherapist
30 N Michigan Ave, Ste 925, Chicago, IL
As a Latina therapist, my work is grounded in expanding and reimagining traditional therapy models, so they honor the full spectrum of human experience. I believe healing is most powerful when it acknowledges not only the individual, but also the cultural, familial, and systemic contexts that shape who we are. My goal is to create a space where every patient feels empowered, safe, and genuinely seen. I understand that vulnerability can feel scary, especially for those of us taught to carry everything on our own. But I believe healing happens in relationship with ourselves, with our roots, and with others. Therapy can be a form of community, a place to lean into support rather than away from it. There is strength in choosing to show up for yourself, even when it feels unfamiliar or uncomfortable. My approach is relational, collaborative, and culturally attuned. I also value humor, authenticity, and deep conversation. Together, we might explore patterns, family dynamics, or intergenerational stories that influence your present; some days, therapy may feel light, informal, or even playful; other days, it may feel challenging or emotionally heavy. Both are valid, meaningful parts of the work. At the core of my work is the belief that you already carry wisdom within you. You don’t need to be “ready” or have a clear plan. You simply must be open to the process. I’ll meet you where you are, and we’ll go from there!

What should a new client know about working with you?

When you work with me, you can expect a warm, welcoming, and non-judgmental space where curiosity is at the heart of our work together. I take a psychodynamic approach, which means we’ll explore your early experiences, relationships, and generational patterns to understand how they may be shaping your present. I believe in the power of revisiting childhood and intergenerational trauma; not to dwell in the past, but to gain insight, clarity, and the freedom to move forward. As your therapist, I see you as the expert on your life. My role is to guide, challenge, and support you. I take the lead in sessions with a grounded presence but always honor your pace and what feels right for you. This is your space, come as you are. There’s no need to filter yourself here. My training was rooted in community mental health, where I worked with individuals from all walks of life, across various identities and intersectionalities. That experience shaped my understanding of how culture, family, systems, and lived experiences intersect in deeply personal ways. As a first-generation daughter of immigrants, born and raised in Chicago, and the oldest in my family, I bring both lived experience and clinical insight to our work. I understand the complexity of carrying multiple roles and expectations, and how cultural and familial pressures can shape our inner world. And while I am a therapist, that doesn’t mean I have it all figured out. I show up as a real person in this work, and I invite you to do the same. Therapy with me is laidback but intentional, compassionate yet honest, and always rooted in the belief that healing is possible on your terms.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My process begins with getting to know you; what brings you into therapy, what you’re hoping to explore or change, and how I can best support you along the way. In our first session, I’ll ask a series of questions to better understand your background, current challenges, and any relevant history (emotional, relational, cultural, and psychological). This time is also for you to get a feel for me, my style, and to ask any questions you have about therapy or my approach. We’ll discuss your goals, whether they’re specific (like reducing anxiety, improving relationships, or setting boundaries) or more open-ended (like wanting to understand yourself better or heal from the past). These goals can evolve over time, and we’ll revisit them together as needed. I’ll also be transparent about my responsibilities as your therapist. This includes maintaining confidentiality, creating a safe and respectful space, and showing up with consistency and care. I’ll share what you can expect from me, and if you’re new to therapy, I’m more than happy to answer questions about the process, expectations, or anything you’re unsure about. Our work won’t be one-size-fits-all. I tailor each session based on your needs and what you’re bringing into the room. My psychodynamic approach means we’ll often explore patterns, emotional responses, and experiences from your past that may be influencing your present. But we’ll also stay grounded in the here and now, working collaboratively and at your pace. Over time, therapy becomes a space where trust grows, insight deepens, and real change can happen. Whether you’re new to therapy or returning after time away, we’ll move forward in a way that feels meaningful, supportive, and uniquely yours.
