Getting to know Aileen Richardson

Hello and welcome to the Private Practice of Joanne M. Kingston, LCSW. My goal is to help you feel accepted and create peace in your life. I approach each session from a client-directed perspective-meaning that you are the only one who can truly determine what you want to work on. With that being said, I utilize many theoretical orientations and techniques to help guide you in setting and completing goals for your life. I always tell my clients that you are the expert of your life, and I am the expert in science-we use both of us to determine your course of treatment. I specialize in pediatric counseling (ecosystemic play therapy), family counseling (Satirian counseling), pre-marital counseling, couples counseling, OCD, anxiety/depression/mood disorders, neurodiversity, PTSD, military families, eating disorders, etc. Due to having a multitude of degrees within different specialties, I can also offer religious-based counseling in the Abrahamic faiths. I hold a Bachelor's degree from Siena College, a Master's ABT from Brigham Young University, and a Master's in Mental Health Counseling from New York University. Families are the most basic unit of our society, and overall, I would love to help support and strengthen families and individuals to foster a kinder, flourishing society. If you feel stuck, want to work through trauma, or are looking for a more peaceful home, you have come to a great place where you can cozy up to counseling and enjoy being heard. Take care, Aileen "Mrs. Ai" Richardson Valley, MA *** CURRENTLY I AM ONLY BOOKING NEW PATIENTS/CLIENTS FOR OUR INTERN JESSICA ALMELEH-FRAZIER. Jessica is a graduate student intern through SUNY Albany. She specializes in poverty-based stressors, families, children, anxiety, depression, and adoption. Please know that if you book with me, you'll actually be meeting with Jessica.********

What should a new client know about working with you?

I do not require homework to be done outside of sessions, but I do expect that techniques and skills will be applied when we are not together in session. I, also, have a habit of recommending books, frequently! These books are not a requirement, but a suggestion if you want to absorb more knowledge, and accomplish some self-guided healing outside of our office.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I take between 9 and 12 weeks to establish a diagnosis for my clients. I believe it takes a multitude of evidence for me to narrow down exactly how a client/patient is living and/or struggling. A typical session with me will have you bring your woes from the week to our session. With the use of CBT, DBT, narrative therapy, Rogerian talk therapy, ecosystemic play therapy, Satirian Family therapy, Gestault therapy, and IFS parts work, we will utilize science to help us better understand what is going on within your life and relationships with others. From there, we use skills and techniques to start to apply new habits into your life. Becoming healthier can feel awkward and take time. We acknowledge and embrace this process through learning to love ourselves unconditionally, and take time to enjoy the process of living as a human being on earth. I always say that "therapy is part of life, and life is part of therapy," join me for lunch, tea, a walk, or sitting outdoors if that is how counseling works for you. I will join you from my office and explore your world alongside you. Courses of treatment can be more formal if needed for schools or for your specific desires, otherwise your course of treatment can be guided by you! This is your life to enjoy and embrace at your own pace.

My child and I have been seeing Ai for over 2 years, she has always been professional, helpful, and has a wealth of knowledge. I have actually referred several people to her and have seen my child grow exponentially and find their voice and the ability to figure out who they are. I highly recommend Ai as a therapist!!
