“We saw Aleks as a couple for marital issues we were facing. He helped us immensely and I can say our marriage is at the best point it has been. He was compassionate and empathic, listened attentively and remembered everything we had mentioned. He helped us improve our communication skills with each other and also guided us on how to navigate individual problems we were facing. We are and always will be grateful for the help we received. I cannot recommend him highly enough. ”

Getting to know Aleks Kico

You matter, and your needs are truly important. Embracing change and seeking self-improvement is a natural part of life and should be viewed as an opportunity rather than a burden. Whether you're navigating strained relationships or difficulty creating healthy connections, dealing with a history of trauma, anxiety or depression, loss and grief, anger, impulsive behaviors, isolation, substance abuse, or striving to overcome old patterns, I would be delighted to hear from you. I hold a Master's in Social Work from Loyola University Chicago, which equips me to support you with empathy and professional care.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Empathy and collaboration lie at the heart of my therapeutic approach. My goal is to authentically connect with you, placing a strong emphasis on understanding your unique experiences and background. I approach each individual as the expert of their own life, recognizing and valuing your insights and wisdom. Our therapeutic journey involves open and candid dialogue, where we explore the challenges you face, unraveling their threads in your life, understanding their impact, cultivating self-awareness and insight, and most importantly taking steps to grow from these challenges. My approach is characterized by complete authenticity and active engagement, fostering a dynamic and interactive conversation-style session. As a therapist, I integrate a blend of therapeutic modalities, such as dialectical behavioral psychotherapy, depth-oriented psychotherapy, and humanistic psychotherapy. Within this integrative model, various pathways are explored towards progress and therapeutic goals. These encompass delving into emotional work, improving communication skills, gaining insight into your history and background, enhancing self-awareness and introspection, receiving supportive guidance, challenging self-limiting beliefs, creating a vision for an ideal version of yourself, and taking agency towards change.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

While each session has it’s own variation of similarities and differences, depending on the phase of therapy, a typical session with me is one where we hone in on a particular theme of the week or of recent times that captures a story about where you are and what is being called to your attention. From there, we discuss any thoughts, beliefs, emotions, and influencing factors about this theme, and in discussing this, we outline what needs to happen next. It is my goal that by the time you leave the office, you walk away with a more insightful, hopeful, ambitious curiosity about yourself and your story.
