Alex Lindsay, SW

Psychotherapist
MI
Hi, I'm Alex. Here's something I know from my own life: it can feel genuinely hard to believe you deserve the goodness you're after. That's something I understand, and it's a big part of why I do this work. I'm a clinical social worker with five years of experience in Michigan and New York, and I've been running my own practice for the past year. I work especially well with depression and anxiety. In our sessions, we examine the thoughts and meanings you make of your world and work to change the ones that hold you back. Most clients start to notice real shifts after a couple of sessions. I'll help you learn to recognize when you need to be there for yourself, and how. Reach out and let's see what we can do together.

Getting to know Alex Lindsay

What should a new client know about working with you?

I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to encourage clients to examine themselves. Our treatment will be a lot of "What's going on there?" and "How do you understand that?". I ask what meanings clients make of their world and the thoughts/feelings that come with them. I help my clients foster their insight to direct their treatment, and help them get where they want to go. I use reflective listening, and try to understand where my clients are coming from to validate them.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our first session is a conversation, not a form. I'll share a few things about how I work, and then the floor is yours: tell me your story in whatever way feels right. I'm not going to direct you; I'm going to be your research partner, helping you figure out what matters and where you want to go. By the end, we'll usually have the outlines of a direction for treatment. Most people leave feeling heard and a little clearer about their next steps.

Alex called out 35 minutes prior to appointment time, which was fine. We spoke less than 2 minutes, he was not able to help with what I needed, nor could he direct me to someone who could. He was very nice, but there was no appointment for all intents and purposes.
