What should a new client know about working with you?

My approach to EMDR therapy is empathetic and understanding, while rooted in the trauma informed principles of establishing safety, trust, autonomy, collaboration, and empowerment. In the beginning of therapy my focus is on helping you stabilize in your everyday life and gain resources and skills to feel confident about engaging in EMDR therapy. I move at a pace that feels tolerable and safe for you while working to instill confidence that you can keep progressing. As an EMDR therapist I recognize the difficulty in building trust at first, so much of my approach in the beginning is focused on establishing that with you before moving into anything deeper.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

EMDR Therapy with me begins with a thorough assessment and interviewing you to determine your strengths, needs, preferences, expectations, barriers, and goals and establish a mutual agreement for how to work together. I may provide referrals to other professionals to help support your therapy in a holistic way. I work from a three phase model of trauma therapy beginning with: Phase 1: Safety and Stabilization (typically several weeks to several months) In this phase I help you establish the ability to find a sense of safety in your everyday life, build skills to regulate your nervous system and emotions, and help you build a tool kit of resources and coping skills that give you more sense of control in your life. Phase 2: Memory Reprocessing (several weeks to several months) In this phase I introduce you to EMDR therapy and collaborate with you to reprocesses past traumas at a pace and intensity you can tolerate, gaining a sense of confidence with each successful target memory reprocessed. Phase 3: Reintegration In this phase I work to help you make use of the relief and freedom achieved in previous phases by helping you enrich and broaden your life in ways that feel affirming of who you want to be, and empowering you to believe in yourself as you feel able to take on new challenges.

I am In Network with Aetna through Headway For Out of Network claims, I provide superbills and I'm listed as a provider on Thrizer. If your deductible is met, Thrizer will instantly reimburse you for your copay or coinsurance following a session with me and they will wait for reimbursement. For example: Provided deductible is met: Session cost: $150 Co-insurance 40% Allowed Amount of $150 Estimated cost to you: $85 In this example, Thrizer would allow the client to pay $85 for the session without the need for a superbill.
