Getting to know Alexa Cohen

***PROVIDER WILL BE REACHING OUT WITHIN 24 HOURS OF BOOKING TO SET UP A 15 MINUTE PHONE CONSULTATION BEFORE FIRST APPOINTMENT. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), I provide a warm, supportive space where children, adolescents, and their families feel heard and empowered. I earned my Master of Social Work from Florida Atlantic University and have experience providing therapy in school, community mental health, foster care, and telehealth settings. I work with children and teens experiencing anxiety, depression, behavioral and academic concerns, emotional regulation difficulties, family conflict, and peer relationship challenges. My approach is collaborative, strengths-based, and rooted in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Through creative telehealth sessions using interactive activities, screen sharing, and games, I help children build coping skills, confidence, and resilience in an engaging way. I also partner closely with parents and caregivers to support lasting progress at home and at school while fostering a trusting environment where children feel safe expressing themselves within the boundaries of confidentiality.

What should a new client know about working with you?

The first session is all about getting to know your child, understanding your concerns, and creating a plan to support your family's goals. I strive to create a welcoming, engaging environment where children and adolescents feel comfortable being themselves. We'll discuss what brought your child to therapy, their strengths, current challenges, and treatment goals. Parents and caregivers are an important part of the process, and we'll review how we can work together to support progress both during and outside of sessions. We'll also discuss confidentiality, including how therapy provides a safe space for your child to share openly, as well as the legal and ethical exceptions related to safety concerns, abuse or neglect, and other situations required by law.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My therapeutic approach is warm, collaborative, and strengths-based. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help children and adolescents better understand the connection between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors while building practical coping skills. Sessions are tailored to each child's unique needs and incorporate creative, interactive telehealth activities—including screen sharing, games, and play-based techniques—to keep therapy engaging and meaningful. I believe caregivers are an important part of the therapeutic process and collaborate with families to reinforce skills, improve communication, and support lasting progress. My goal is to help children build confidence, strengthen emotional regulation and problem-solving skills, and develop the tools they need to thrive at home, at school, and in their relationships.

Alexa was absolutely incredible with my child. Her patience, compassion, and expertise made such a meaningful difference, and we saw tremendous growth throughout our time with her. My child learned so much, gained confidence, and developed skills that have made a lasting impact. We are incredibly grateful to Alexa and would wholeheartedly recommend her to any family.
We are beyond grateful for the impact Alexa has had on our son. He was struggling with behavioral issues and emotions that he didn’t always know how to express or manage. She immediately connected with him and created a safe environment where he felt understood. She taught him tools to cope, regroup, regulate his emotions, and work through difficult situations in a healthier way. She helped him learn the importance of respect, communication, accountability, and making positive choices when he feels overwhelmed. The growth we have seen in our son has been incredible. She helped him understand his emotions and gave him practical tools to handle them differently. We have seen such a positive change in his confidence, behavior, and ability to regulate himself. She has truly been a blessing to our family. We are so thankful for her patience and genuine care for our son. I recommend her to any parent looking for someone who will truly connect with their child and make a lasting difference.
