Getting to know Alexa Francolino

Our therapeutic relationship will always be most important to me; it is very important that you feel safe, heard, and supported. You know your mind and body better than anyone else in the world, and I will always encourage your intuition and inner strength to lead the way. Together, we will uncover and unlearn all that is no longer yours to hold onto. During our work together, you can expect to experience an increase in self-esteem, self-trust, emotional regulation, distress tolerance, self-acceptance, self-compassion, confidence and empowerment, boundaries, lifestyle, self-talk, and self-care. You will have a fellow human sitting across from you as you develop the strength, self-trust, self-acceptance, and resilience to become your own healer—to learn how to care for yourself in ways uniquely relative to you and your experiences—and finally feel safe in your mind and embody a feeling of home within your own body. I hold a Master’s in Clinical Social Work from the City University of New York, which informs my compassionate and client-centered approach to therapy.

What should a new client know about working with you?

During our time, we may engage in CBT interventions, mindfulness strategies, IFS parts work, somatic interventions, nervous system health and regulation, psychoeducation, and/or adaptive lifestyle changes. You can expect to participate in a somatic intervention each session (if requested and appropriate), involving movement, breathing techniques, meditation.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Your emotional health is your physical health, and visa versa. I was given the opportunity to realize just how much trauma and patterns stored in the body can influence not only our mental health, but our physical health; How the body and mind are not separate, but actually work in perfect union. Alongside therapy, I have been practicing Yoga and Meditation for many years and underwent Yoga Teacher Training and additional certifications in Somatic Experiencing and Complex Trauma so that I could better guide others through this mind/body healing. Relative to this, my current purpose is to guide you back into your body, rather than solely relying on the mind, because it is my understanding and knowing that we cannot always think our way into safety, but we must use the body to feel our way back to safety. I want to help you go from merely surviving and just getting by… to thriving. I truly believe that our baseline is to feel calm, peaceful, centered, and grounded, and that external and environmental factors pull us further away from this innate state of being. It is my intention to help your body remember this state of being through real-time somatic practices, to get back to the Truest version of you, remember who you really are underneath it all. It was taught to me that our inner sense of self is the part of us that is untouched by life events, childhood experiences, conditioning, expectations; and through somatics (body-based), mindfulness, and cognitive interventions, I hope to help you uncover and unlearn all that is not yours to hold onto.

Alexa has helped me over the last year and a half. Navigating life as a first time parent can be difficult, but Alexa has provided me with tools in order to not just survive, but thrive.
Alexa is patient, kind and touches on the right things for my growth. She is a veteran guide in helping me to feel all my emotions without judgment but ensuring that I’m feeling safe and strong while feeling them. I’m less anxious, rarely anymore. She helped me out of some deep depths. With the tools I sharpened in Alexa’s practices I won’t be going back to those depths either. Thank you for all you continue to do Alexa!
I have struggled to find the right fit and approach from a therapist for a while, but working with Alexa has been a transformative experience to say the least. She creates a safe and supportive space without judgement, where I feel comfortable opening up about my most vulnerable issues. The expertise she brings in somatic therapy has been a game changer for me, helping me make tremendous progress by understanding and addressing both the physical and emotional aspects of trauma and healing. I highly recommend Alexa to anyone, but especially those seeking a therapist who can provide a thoughtful and integrative approach to healing. I only wish I had found her sooner!
