Psychotherapist
NY
I am an experienced licensed clinical psychologist. I specialize in somatic (body-oriented) Reichian therapy and medication reduction/avoidance. I currently practice in New York City. I work remotely and offer house calls anywhere on the planet. For over 30 years, I have worked successfully with children, teens, adults, couples, seniors, and families in crisis and those simply wishing to improve their lives. I am experienced in working successfully with chronic anxiety, depression, psychosis/schizophrenia, eating disorders, and addiction to both illegal, legal, and prescription drugs. I also specialize in assisting those who wish to avoid, minimize, or discontinue their use of toxic and unnecessary medications prescribed for psychological distress. In addition to my clinical work, I have taught classes in critical evaluation of psychological research at the graduate level; presented at psychological conferences; hosted a call-in radio show on psychological issues; and conducted psychological research focusing on the dangers and inefficacy of using psychotropic medications to treat psychological distress. My first work, An Investigation of Being Under the Influence of Prozac, focused on the dangerous flaws in FDA clinical approval trials, marketing, and the subsequent reliance of millions of people on this popular drug. This work also exposed the unproven nature of the theories of biological defect and chemical imbalance which support the use of these toxic drugs and the diagnoses which make them seem necessary. My last project, The Full Spectrum Progressive Psychology Center, was an integrative intensive outpatient clinic in San Francisco based on somatic and medication-free principles dedicated to supporting the recovery of those experiencing severe psychological distress such as psychosis, chronic anxiety, depression, and addiction to illegal and prescription medications.

What should a new client know about working with you?

It does not have to be this way! I can help you eliminate avoid many physical and psychological health issues which are still considered genetic, incurable, or fatal today. As many people are discovering, talk therapy is limited in its ability to affect permanent change in behavior and emotional wellness. Toxic medications are dangerous and unnecessary. I emphasize the importance of working primarily and directly with feeling both emotions and the physical/biological roots of emotional distress. Using talk but to a much lesser degree, we can achieve more permanent results than those therapies which rely only on intellectual understanding and/or toxic medications. Both psychological distress such as depression, anxiety, addiction, and psychosis/schizophrenia and physical ailments such as muscular pain, chronic fatigue, liver disease and even cancer share underlying causes. Both result from chronic tension/contractions of muscles restricting the natural movement of the body and healthy flow of blood, oxygen, and toxins(including toxic emotions)through your body. Our posture, our way of breathing, and our patterns of muscular tension affect our beliefs, our behavior towards others, and our reactions to stressful situations. When we are able to allow ourselves to breathe, feel more fully and release intense emotions such as sadness, joy, fear, anger, and sexual arousal in more effective ways, we become happier, healthier, and more productive...permanently. However, if we keep our muscles tighter than necessary, we create physical blocks(muscular tension)as well as intellectual and emotional blocks(rigid thinking, anger issues, reduced empathy for others). We become fearful and anxious and avoid feeling difficult emotions inside us. We become intolerant of different opinions and beliefs, and less and less capable of allowing new information to change our mind. We also risk developing serious and potentially fatal physical ailments. It does not have to be this way!

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Sessions are remote, 50-60 minutes ,and at least weekly. The work is best done lying down in unrestrictive clothing as I will invite you to breathe and move in certain ways designed to help you allow yourself to feel your body and emotions more deeply and easily. As emotions and memories held by you in your body are released, I will invite you to express them in various ways including words, sounds, and physical movements.
