“As much as I walked from when I first started therapy and then eventually working with Alexander. I have not forgotten how far I came. Working with Alexander has been an unforgettable experience. When I first started working with him I just wanted to feel better, I wanted a quick and easy answer but he did not give that, he gave me what I needed. Because of him I started asking questions such as what does it mean to be "better" in this context? As much as I wanted to be a passenger to my own life, Alexander worked with me and reminded me how important it is to be the driver in my own life. Today I am proud to be the one driving my life and Alexander helped explored all the possible roads and possibilities. He met me where I needed to be and it felt like talking to a very good friend once we got into the swing of things. Alexander told me how to fish and gave me the tools to be self-sufficient and I am forever greatful for it. Thank you again Alexander ”

Getting to know Alexander Sergeev

Thank you for visiting my profile and taking the first step in your healing journey. I am a Mental Health Counselor experienced in working with adults navigating a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, self-esteem concerns, relationship challenges, people-pleasing, men’s issues, identity concerns, and life transitions. My work is grounded in the belief that mental and emotional well-being are influenced by the many experiences, relationships, and circumstances that shape our lives. I am particularly interested in helping clients better understand themselves, recognize patterns that may be getting in the way of the life they want, and develop a stronger sense of direction and self-trust. My approach is person-centered, integrative, strengths-based, and goal-oriented. I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT), psychodynamic exploration, Internal Family Systems (IFS)/parts work, and mindfulness-based techniques. I believe there is no single approach that works for everyone, and I tailor my work to each client’s individual needs, goals, and circumstances. I also have a background in health and wellness as a certified personal trainer and nutrition coach. This experience has further shaped my perspective on the connection between mental, emotional, and physical well-being and the importance of taking a holistic view of the individual. I understand both professionally and personally how heavy life can feel, as well as how powerful it can be to reclaim a sense of control over your life. My goal is to help clients recognize their capacity for growth and make meaningful changes that support the life they want to build. It takes courage to take the first step. If this resonates with you, I invite you to take the second step with me.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I believe therapy should be a space where you can be honest about what you’re experiencing and feel understood without being judged. I don’t see you as a diagnosis or a collection of symptoms. I see you as a capable individual navigating a complex life. I value authenticity, openness, and collaboration in the therapeutic relationship. I want you to feel comfortable bringing your experiences into the space as they are, while also feeling supported in looking at the parts of yourself, your relationships, or your life that may be difficult to understand or change. Through trauma, unmet needs, and difficult experiences, we all develop coping strategies. Some help us adapt. Others eventually hold us back. Together, we can become curious about where certain patterns come from and what purpose they may have served, without judging you for having developed them. I believe meaningful change involves both self-understanding and action. My role is not to tell you how to live your life, but to help you better understand yourself, clarify what matters to you, and make choices that feel increasingly aligned with your own values. You can expect me to meet you where you are while also encouraging growth when it feels appropriate. Therapy is not about becoming someone else. It is about developing a deeper understanding of yourself and building the confidence, autonomy, and self-trust to move through life in a way that feels more intentional.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I offer a brief 10-15-minute consultation prior to our session to learn about what brings you to therapy, answer any initial questions you may have, and determine whether my approach and areas of focus feel like a good fit for your needs. When we begin therapy, our first priority is understanding what brings you in and what you would like to be different in your life. We’ll explore your current concerns, relevant experiences and patterns, your strengths, and the goals you would like to work toward. As we develop a better understanding of what you need, we’ll work together to identify areas for growth and determine which approaches and strategies may be most helpful. Depending on your goals, sessions may include reflection, exploring patterns and underlying beliefs, processing experiences, developing coping skills, practicing new ways of responding, or working through relationship and boundary concerns. I believe therapy should be flexible and individualized. Some clients may benefit from a more practical, skills-based approach, while others may need more space to slow down, reflect, and explore deeper patterns. We’ll adjust the focus of our work as you progress and as your needs evolve.

Hands down one of the best therapists in New York, I can’t stress enough how easy, safe, and effective therapy can be while working with Alexander. Not only was he cool but really sat down with me for every session and helped me navigate my emotions, stress, and the ability to better myself as an individual. With Alexander therapy doesn’t feel awkward or hard it’s breathable and fresh every session. 10/10 therapist and person
I’ve had a positive experience with Alex. I feel heard, respected, and comfortable discussing personal challenges without feeling judged. Our sessions have helped me gain greater self awareness, process my emotions, and develop healthier ways of communicating and handling difficult situations. I appreciate the support, guidance, and safe space provided throughout my sessions.
Alex is exceptional in so many ways. His work is fascinating and full of intentionally challenging and warm words and exercises designed just for you and your dilemmas.
My visits were calm and relaxed, I was able to cover all my problems and have time to discuss solutions on my own instead of feeling like I had to rely on someone to find the solutions for me.
Alex is an amazing therapist. We’ve been working together for about 7 months and he’s helped me work through things my old therapists weren’t able to. I always leave our sessions feeling better than when I came in and I’m grateful to have found a therapist who genuinely cares, takes his time to truly understand me, help me identify the root of my issues, and help me realize how I want to move forward. I’ve learned so much from him and he’s helped me change for the better in so many ways
Fantastic service
Alexander has been my therapist for almost a year and I would highly recommend him. He is a great listener, patient, understanding, and also challenges my thinking when appropriate. I have made good progress with him, and am in a happier and healthier place.
I met with Alex once a week, over the course of many months. He was ALWAYS compassionate, supportive and wise with his counsel. I deeply appreciated all of his time and guidance - and highly recommend him! Michael

Alexander is an amazing therapist. I really appreciate how comfortable he makes it to talk about things I normally wouldn’t feel comfortable bringing up with someone. He genuinely listens, remembers the little things, and gives thoughtful, honest feedback without ever making me feel judged. I always feel heard and understood during our sessions, and I’m really grateful to have found a therapist I can be so open with.
