Alexander Soto, LCSW

Psychotherapist
NY
I utilize my training and experiences working with individuals who have faced severe mental health challenges, are part of or adjacent to the LGBTQIA+ community, or have experienced systemic injustices and oppression to help clients process, learn, and begin to heal their wounds. Since 2018, I have worked and trained formally with those experiencing severe mental health issues in community-based organizations, treating a wide range of diagnoses from personality disorders to psychotic disorders. From my personal experience, I found that trauma is a common thread in most diagnoses. This led me to explore ways to reduce and treat trauma, which brought me to EMDR. Through EMDR, it is possible to address traumatic experiences and help alleviate the impact of trauma on people’s lives. I hold a Master’s in Social Work from New York University, which has further equipped me with the knowledge and skills to support my clients effectively. As a Queer Non-binary Person of Color, my goal is also to help those from similar communities or backgrounds process their experiences of systemic violence and oppressive systems that have caused harm or led to feelings of shame and alienation. My hope is to help you get better or reach a better place than where you were before we met. Like most forms of therapy, healing can take time, and with the tools I have, my goal is to guide you through that process to reduce the burden and pain you are experiencing.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I utilize trauma informed, client centered approaches to treat the impact of trauma, social stigmas around identity and belonging. I am technically trained in EMDR and Flash, and utilize techniques from EMDR, CBT, IFS, and other modalities to help patients process their grief, fears, and anxieties. I also have formal training with letter writing for medical services for those that are seeking transitional services.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Clients can expect an initial session to discuss what is bring them to therapy, how the therapy process will work, depending on treatment option and need, and then utilizing their following sessions to process and explore what brought them to therapy in the first place.
